I was the friend who had a listen, CAAudioCollector pretty much hit it when he stated the one note nature. They basically overwhelmed the mids on my speakers and added a constant fizz to the highs. In my full range driver experience, Jordans, Phillips, Corals etc. these would be great paired with full range speakers of the like, Tannoys would be my first choice to pair them with as well as Coral drivers. I would like to hear them paired with horn loaded speakers such as LaScalas one day.
That should be a test to know about.

The Grants are pretty rigs for sure but careful careful speaker matching is a must for them.

Equipment associated for the test:
Musical Fidelity Integrated amplifier A1
Modded Sony PS1 Cd Player
Meridian DVD/CDP
YP-450 Turntable / Sumiko Blue Point Special MC
Custom built Phillips speakers, Deforest 12" driver, SQ 8 midrange driver and white Ceramic dome tweeter.
Analysis Plus Oval Interconnects
QED Interconnects
OFC Silver plated custom speaker cables banana terminated

Peace,
Preston

At 105dbm the LaScalas would be an incredibly poor match to the SPT-100 supertweeters as they are at least 13db more efficient than them and would completely drown out any effect they might have. The same logic would apply to the Klipschorns, Cornwalls, Hereseys, Fortes, Choruses, etc ........

I don't agree with that assessment as the horn tweeters have a very different sound than the Grants, I feel they can be heard in a test. Just my opinion of course.
Peace,
Preston

Thanks for adding your comments Preston. I agree, they aren't for every speaker, nor are they for everyone's ears. I always want to talk to the anyone prior to purchase to get a feel if it is right or not for them. I have one guy with some 96 db fullrangers return them, could not hear it all, but have a LaScalla customer who loves them. go figure :) If you can't dial a supertweeter in by placement and controls so that it dissapears sonically then it isn't set up right or just doesn't work with your speaskers. Other supertweeters might, so just because the SPT-100 doesn't, do try some other brands (I'm talking in general to anyone reading).

Fun system tweek to try.

Cheers,
Ian

Hi Ian, what would these do for Realistic Mach II's (with the damping mod) playing classical music from vinyl? The Mach II's weakness is supposed to be midrange, however maximum power handling when pressed is reached earlier by its tweeters than in the bass region.

Thread moved to Dealer "General Discussion" forum where according to the forum rules it properly belongs. I've left a "shadow link" to the thread in the Speakers Forum so participants can easily find there way here.

Happy Trails!

Yo CAAudioCollector, how about a test using the AA CBM-170 Signature Series. I'm curious if they'll improve them any. Drop me a line with your opinion when you get a chance.
Peace,
Preston
