My thoughts exactly, Pierre. There are only two reasons to want an ad to be removed ... the seller is trying to hide some sort of evidence (same as wanting to delete photos from 'sold' ads), or they have some form of OCD and leaving things incomplete causes great stress and irritation.

It has already been said, but nobody can respond to 'sold' or 'off' ads ... and sellers' names are always removed from historical ads in Google searches. This is a non-issue. These ads are FREE, and they become the property of CAM ... to do what they want with them.

No, it isn't. It is also no reason to change the site.

Well certainly different views on this, It would be awesome to have the option as said before. Not trying to hide anything just do not want to look at old finished ads. Like in my email after I am finished with that email I delete it why keep it ??

I like the idea of archived ads being available as a reference. In fact, Canuck ads are probably one of, if not the best references for determining market value for almost any audio product.

If sellers want to be able to hide OFF ads from showing on their personal My Ads list we can expose some checkboxes that high volume sellers have which can hide these from their My Ads pages. This is a cosmetic change to help high volume sellers from having too many listings in their history and it might help those who prefer not to see too much of their SOLD/OFF history when looking at their My ads page. What do you think about us adding this?

Here's a screenshot of how that checkbox looks:

Just to offer an alternate perspective, we often get requests from buyers and sellers asking for help finding an old ad of theirs which is not shown in their My Ads page, so while some want to see less history in their accounts others want to see more, and the balance of this creates support requests that we have to help out with. We also get a number of support requests from people who made a mistake and want to restore ads or restore images.

This is discouraged behaviour, and some buyers consider this a sign of suspicious activity. Many users also consider this a frustrating form of manipulating information on the site to hide information for some reason or other, while we aim to increase transparency for the benefit of all.

A large part of what brings in buyers and helps the entire community of sellers on the marketplace is the history of ads posted on CAM. There are also links from reputable sites that link directly to old ads, and those bring in qualified and interested buyers. We have features in place to direct anyone landing on older SOLD ads to help interested buyers find new FOR SALE ads that match the item being looked at. Many many sellers are benefiting from this without even realising it, we're talking a significant volume of sales generated on CAM being thanks to this wealth of historical information.

So what are the default values for the number of days ads remain in these (SOLD/OFF) lists at the moment? Forever?

I think we used to show 3 months worth of your old ads. Then users reported 3 months was too short as they couldn't find old ads so we extended to 6 months worth. More users said they couldn't find older ads and wanted to see more, so now we might show as many as 1.5yrs worth in your My Ads page.

What we could do to ease things for those who don't care about expired ads or who only care about the most recently expired ones is in addition to the checkboxes allow you to filter 3 months, 6months, and 18months worth of old ads.
Disagree - keep the ads so that they can be searched to learn when products sold and for how much.
Otherwise, just what are you hiding??? lol
