Agree 100%, i have thrown more money away in 4 years with a 1987 K car than in 33 years with Honda Civics and that's with Chrysler golden plan warranty.

My 2006 land rover lr3 has a nice stock HArmon kardon system in it. Massive metal woofers in all 4 doors, and subs in the tailgate. I do think sound deadening in the doors would really clean up the midrange though. The bass and highs are fine, but the midrange is what most cars screw up.

My brother has a Lexicon stereo in his Genesis, and that is even better. Not hifi, but very loud and clear.

My nephew bought a brand new honda fit, and spent $1000 on a sub and amp, keeping the stock stereo! I had to act impressed with the 'AM radio sound'combined with the rattling mirrors ready to fall off!

my last three cars were buick. Incredible reliability and a warm sounding audio system, not the most detailed but very listenable. Cheap used older low mileage old man car, saves a lot of money for home audio.
My wifes last two Honda accords, supposed reliable reputation? Junk, way more problems than my buicks. Factory sound system, absolute garbage would be an understatement.
Purchased a Focal amp, speakers, and 192k head unit for my next buick. But didn't use them because I bought a Lexus instead. Mark Levinson factory system, quite decent. Now the Focal stuff is just sitting brand new still in its boxes.

Buy used... Like in audio... I'm lucky to own a Tiguan with a full Dynaudio system that sounds superb. It was a $4000 option when bought new. Got it for ... $0 because it looses its value on the used car resell market... At least this one did after negociations were over....

My new 2013 Ram has a great factory set-up. U connect 5.something. No maintenance for first year and good vibrations. LIFE IS BETTER WITHOUT CONSTANTLY WORKING ON SOUND SYSTEM ALL THE TIME. With that said I did get a Dart to use when I took truck in for scheduled service and I did miss the truck something fierce!
