It has a Bose premium package and sounds really great BUT the package included a tape deck!!! I still love cassettes. I know it's old technology but "if it ain't broke..."

You can always get a 3.5mm to cassette adapter, and hook up whatever player you like to it, if you want a different, more modern source.

Strickly personnal and subjective, but I would never throw away my money on a Chysler product. As they say, burned once...

When I got my grand cherokee ltd

The stereo was a selling feature with a 10 pac dics changer called The Infinity Gold Premium Sound system

Now I think that was a poor reason to make the purchase, only 12 mpg :(

Reminds me of the Blose system in my '03 Pathfinder. When listening to FM, I've always had the bass setting at -1 and when I'm cranking it, I'll generally reduce it further to -2.

But CD's sound pretty good with the bass & treble set at 0. It's acceptable anyway.

Wait until a stabilizer bar goes and your CD player can't play without skipping... Cassettes it is! I found the Bose car systems aren't that bad to be honest. Plus they're there for their target market not us audiophiles. My moms Toyota had Nakamichi in it and I liked her system better tho. Is it the car maker or the system maker that we give credit to? Im not sure, as acoustic environments contribute to sound. All that glass and the plastic of newer vehicles... sounds like acoustic hell, no?

Gotta love the Pumpfinder. I love mine.... Except when you gotta put gas in it

   Pumpfinder !! You got that right. Thanks mortron, I never heard that one before. As much as I love mine too, I had no idea what I was getting into as far as MPG was concerned when I bought it 4 years ago. It was my first V6 after a lifetime of V8s' and and few 4-bangers here and there. I figured it's a modern V6 - how bad can it be? Shoulda/coulda/woulda Googled it but then I might not have bought it and I would have missed out on the pleasure of owning a truly outstanding ride. It's probably one of the quickest SUVs' on the road too, hence the crappy MPG. It really is a blast to drive but it comes at a steep price.

The stock "premium" sound system in my 2013 Honda Civic Si is nearly unlistenable on AM radio due to midrange harshness. For CD/USB playback it's barely acceptable. Overall, not impressed whatsoever. I'm sure I could swap out the front speakers and tweeters for very little money and things would improve exponentially.

Audi stock system in the base Q5 is very good, shockingly good for a base German car.

Especially considering that it's like double the price of Dodge Dart, right?

I was lucky with my 1968 Pontiac Parisienne ... someone went all out and ordered the optional rear speaker! That option included the dash mounted slider to fade between front and rear. Of course, this is a mono system we're talking about.

Great car! I grew up riding in my Dad's 66 Parisienne, loved that car. My 1998 Ford Escort wagon grocery getter has a radio only, but a factory optional power amp of all things under the passenger seat. It actually sounds very good believe it or not, and I often wished my home audio system had a similar tone to it. It does now, but I had to go high quality 70's vintage to get it.

Yes the old ones always have plenty of room to put in speakers if you want. Friend in high school had a '70 Parisienne! What a HUGE rear deck in that car.

My '69 T Bird has the AM only mono (single centered dash 4x8 speaker) in it. I only use it to check CFRB when I first head out, after that it is windows down, and the song of the 429.

My mid 90's BMW had a sad stock setup, and at the time I "invested" 3K improving it. It was way better, but still a car stereo. My current Fusion stock setup is OK, and my wife's van is OK too.

The mention of the base Audi Q5 is actually quite useful to someone looking for a new vehicle with a good sound system. Sure beats "expert for the obvious" posting.

Premium cars obviously have better stereos. There's a lot to be said for sound deadening too.

My FR-S has a terrible stereo and basically no sound deadening, it's truly dreadful. Before I put a real amp in to power the still stock speakers you couldn't even hear the thing on the hwy with the windows down.

On the other hand my previous car, a 2004 M3, had a pretty great Harmon Kardon setup. It lacked outright bass but was still quite good for a factory system. I liked it better than the Logic 7 my parents have in their 335, no bass on that thing.

Isnt the A3 a base model? Either way, the Dart is on a lower rung than the Q5 IIRC... Your base and my base may be on different levels

Whoever mentioned not buying Chrysler, i agree. But I drive an '83 Dodge Mirada in my summers, and that thing is sweet. I carefully removed the stock drivers and replaced them with Pyramids and play ipod through the radio. Thats a base model system. Or worse

It was the last of the first era of rear wheel drive Chrysler cars. And an absolute beauty ;)

Dodge Darts haven't been cool since they had concave rear windows.

Now this is my idea of a Dodge Dart. It's worth a small fortune. This one has the extremely rare big-block 383 shoe-horned into the engine bay. It took up so much room that it could not be ordered with power steering and power brakes. Those were the days.....

We used to smoke cigarettes behind the arcade in an alleyway back home, and an old guy had a mid 60's Dart sitting there. I don't think a day went by we didn't fantasize about fixing it up and tearing around in it. Still not sure what happened to that car… probably got a second lease on life. I hope anyways.

Less deadening = less weight... better mileage and better performance. The FRS is very low too, no? That can't help. Sexy car tho.
