So, if you haven't seen. SVS is having a promotion for black friday where you can pick up a sb12 for 400, and a pb12 for 500 USD. I haven't been entirely satisfied with my current subwoofer, although it's not bad. I'm just curious if there is anything this side of the border, new or used that may be comparable or superior before I organize an international pick up of this beast. With the exchange, I'm looking at about 600-650.

Any opinions?

SVS is good for home theatre but others are better for pure 2-channel music (e.g. JL Audio, REL, etc.).

As you are looking at a ported sub and willing to pick up in the US, there is a ported REL B2 for sale in NY (seller in Syracuse but willing to meet in Rochester) for US$700. Condition is only a 7 hence the low price. No affiliation.

At $700 USD it out of my price point. To be honest, I wasn't planning on purchasing a sub, but I figured that was too good of a deal to pass up on. Considering guys here are asking for 600 for sb1000's, and pb1000's.

I'm not set on a ported enclosure, but feel the lower frequency extension is better for my purposes. The sub is primarily 60% Tv and movies, 23% Gaming, and 17% music listening.

SVS is great sub for HT for sure. The BF sale they have yearly is great deal.

I don’t have a US connection so I bought my pair of PB1000 local from dealer. I seldom buy new but this one I did 3 yrs ago was a great decision. Too bad the BF sale is US only.

Btw, if you can get two. Two subs much better than one.

For TV, movies and gaming, you can't go wrong with SVS and ported, so enjoy!
Chutt is right about two subs so save up for next year's sale for the second one. :)

Do they have this deal, or a similar one, every year?

I've got a sealed 10" sub, that was originally sold at costco, that I purchased from a co-worker. It will join the SVS in the living room for dual subs. It's been okay, but I feel like it lacks in the lower frequencies.

I haven't used one of their subs in years but I did have one of their sealed sub's probably ~7 years back now & if things haven't changed, I'd completely agree with this statement. Their sealed sub is supposed to be more "musical" then their ported subs & even that was a one note wonder, no matter what I did I couldn't get ideal bass integration from the unit. If your looking for a ported sub for HT use, sure go SVS, but if your main goal is good quality bass for music, look elsewhere.
