...Compton...now I'm not a rap fan by any stretch but this biopic currently shuffling on the movie central network (cable) is really good...especially given current/recent events and the historical context of Black History in America...honestly...I've gained an appreciation for some of the original gangsta shite...

Peace out... :D

Yes, it's an excellent film - I'm not a huge rap fan either but always liked N.W.A.
Another interesting film on a similar topic is the 30 for 30 ESPN film "Straight outta L.A." directed by Ice Cube...he talks about the link between the LA Raiders and NWA, among other things...really good.

I watched it on the weekend. I was curious to see how the perception was shown between life and film. I had kids listening to the music growing up.
I enjoyed it and the guy playing Easy E was a dead ringer , but don't quote me boy , cause I ain't saying sh't. ......

It is a fantastic movie & sounds great to boot. I can remember when a DJ buddy of mine got the hot-wax back in '89 & spun it in a club. People freaked out. Public Enemy & NWA were the one-two knockout punch that changed the music scene in an instant. IF you were hip. If you weren't, then Milli Vanilli was your bag. Remember those clowns? Not so much...

Good movie, much better than I thought.
It doesn't seem to matter if it's rock and roll, blues, country and western or hip hop, poor management, bad contracts and greed have destroyed countless bands.
N.W.A was no exception.
As much as I enjoyed the movie I'm still not a rap fan, maybe I do appreciate it a bit more though.

Agreed. Excellent performances. Tension so thick you could cut it with a knife. Should have done better at the Oscars.
Even if you aren't a rap fan (but you are a movie fan), this is definitely worth your time.

Did you catch the Kappa 9 in the background in the one scene?

There was an article on the Winnipeg Free Press (paywalled I believe) when the movie came out about the Priority Records angle with Bryan Turner (who is from Winnipeg), apparently the scene where Ice Cube trashes his office was tiny bit embellished.

A fun movie nonetheless.

A fair deal of liberties were taken with the truth in some scenes... But overall a good biopic. Can't get every side of the story anymore as some of these guys arent around. No way the movie turns out like it did if Eazy was still around.
