Agreed, this debacle (aka; cluster F!) should have a very specific purpose in regards to the plot, Ani is in deep caca with the force and that sketchy mayor. I did not see it as a "typical TV" moment at all. Gratuitous maybe but one only needs read a paper for gratuitous.

This whole arrest was a set-up coming from way up the food chain. The group had no idea they would be dealing with a drug lab. I believe the watch that the suspects sold to the pawn shop was a ploy to get things going. See how many of the main characters could be "eliminated", especially Ani.

Bet the Mayor - 'be careful out there' was behind it.

...agreed...and I'd wager there is something/someone heavier still behind/above him...

So...Frank lied to Ray about who his wife's rapist was and who by extension he apparently murdered...Ray's existential angst just got more complex and his state of mind more volatile...how and to what end does he leverage this new knowledge with Frank? hmmmmmm.... :D

Its a decent series. It is not the equal of the first season.

If not for the first season, I am not sure I would watch all of this one.

But based on how the first season picked up and went good places, I will trust that this will too.

It definitely has a different pace and tone that I think is reflective of it being set in a different place...it's intentional...deliberate...the story has some meat, the writing and direction are first order, and though Vaughn's slightly wooden Frank irritated me in the beginning he's won me over through a consistency of delivery and an interior complexity that he reveals with good dialogue and better than average acting chops...Kitsch too is proving to be worthy of material slightly beyond his previous outings expectations...Farrell and McAdams are stellar as are most of the support cast...

I agree completely, they just need to start folding the plot lines in , or at minimum sort of point them at each other (so to speak)...lots of time yet.
Try missing a few minutes of any given episode aired thus far and you will need to back pedal some to get back up to speed....for some viewers that is to much to ask

It should get interesting now that Ani, Ray, and Paul are "off the grid". Watching the episodes a second time does help as well.
All three characters really shine in my opinion. Frank character being "Wooden" is a great way to describe him.

I loved the look in Ray's eyes when he confronts Frank at the end of the last episode......
