Knowing that the show was going to use an anthology format for each season it was funny reading the internet theories that got WAY too involved for an encapsulated 8 episode arch. In the end it plays out fairly straight forward but in such a creative and powerful way there is no disappointment. It left me wanting to know more about the backwoods Cajuns and their supposed long history not to mention all the others that were involved in their rituals.

I very much enjoyed Californication for the first couple seasons with the Lou Ashby season being my favourite. A great homage to Charles Bukowski. The show could be both crass and poignant when it need to be. However that show has lost it's way. I couldn't give a rat's ass about Hank and Karen any more. The writers need to give up on that story line and either end the show or develop something else of interest. There is nothing wrong with going out on a high note and after the terrible ending X-Files had one would think that David Duchovny would understand that. I still watch it but with less excitement.

Che, very good point about Deadwood. I first saw a small clip and thought that it just looked like it was trying to be extreme in it's use of language but when I finally watched it I loved it.

A trailer for a tv show is not enough to go on, especially with something on the level of True Detective.

Stony, no disrespect was intended however I think you may have proven my point.* ie the commercials target the lowest common denominator.

** How would you know?

As Stone asked what TV or film do you like. It may make it more understandable from a discussion point to understand that.

@tolpheus. Any time you start to consider Kristen Bell to be a lightweight, just go back and take a look at her first work, right?

Speaking of Deadwood...I hereby launch a campaign for Ian McShane as a main character in the next True Detective...maybe throw in Garret Dillahunt too...

Anyone watch Justified? Great show based on the writing of Elmore Leonard featuring Timothy Olyphant playing a US Marshall who is essentially a cowboy (like his character in Deadwood). Fantastic writing with sharp Elmore Leonard style dialogue. Great cast and guest stars too.

One of the outcomes (for me) of the deluge of great TV on cable...I can't watch network (commercial filled) TV...except for my old friend Law & Order...

I like that Raylan kinda gets his ass kicked in fights. He's better with his gun though.

Haven't seen that picture of Walter Goggins before. Clearly showing his range.

I am kinda hoping that comment goes to someone specifically not to those of us that enjoyed the show....evidently you have never read a novel or more realistically a short story that although well written leaves the reader to fill in some of the blanks with his or her own interpretation of the events. leaves you to create the rest of the story , your version if you will....but I guess I am speaking out of turn and its my crazy 2 digit IQ imagining things again.
Oh it must be so grand an illusion to have such a high IQ that a little escapism is below you

I only have a basic cable pkg for TV. The Trailer is all over any tv station that we get. I hear it almost any time the tv is on. Others in my family do watch this so I am somewhat aware of the show. I just don't enjoy this type of show. I see the appeal of it but cant grasp how people can be so involved in it. I just don't get it. I don't mind that most people disagree with me. FWIW I like some A&E programming, History channel and PBS. Documentary's and news programming. Some sports and outdoor shows, hunting and almost no Wrastling! Surely I cant be the only one?
