Pretty much agree that Japanese pressings VS 180G reissues is a crapshoot. However, in the case of a lot of albums that have never been reissued on 180G or reissue labels...they can be well worth the extra time & $$ to obtain. They can really sound great...esp. in terms of detail, the sound of the higher freq. and typically VERY quiet sounding vinyl.

Some collectors say that the bass in Japanese pressing is "too thin" but I find it reasonable.

More importantly...I've found that the condition of used Japanese LPs is generally very good to exc. It seems Japanese people do take care of their stuff!! Rarely get scratches or surface noise. I'm thinking it is has to do with the Japanese culture of being meticulous, careful and giving attention to detail. This may sound like an over-generalization...almost racist...but I found this after buying over 50 Japanese LPs over the years.

Anyway my 2 cents,
regards,
Grant

I am not in vinyl anymore...but I think that main difference is the material and handling of Japan companies of the manufacturing of the vinyl and also I know that in many instances they actually use the original/non eq masters to get the "original" sound from the master tapes....means they will sound different then say any other copies....
