These would be great LP's to have. I guess it depends on the OP's comments/review of the reissues being as good..(?) If so, even the UK reissues are only $40. and you get a complete package with new condition album...

"2011 is a bit more musical sounding"

After over 45 years of serious music listening, I still do not know what this means.

LOL...it means whatever you want it to mean...it is not quantifiable...

However the poster mentioned that musical is less detailed...so it could be the treble is slightly ramped up on the 2016 releases OR might be more true to original session, which could be measured...but how is one to know for sure...especially if your over 40.

I'm cataloguing a large record collection that has thirteen Pink Floyd LPs, including various pressings of various albums....including four different DSOTM!!
There are different copies/pressings of a lot of different Rock, Jazz and Classical LPs.

The 2011 pressing and the 2016 pressing is the same pressing in North America. Bernie Grundman didn't remaster the 2016 North American version as noted on the hype sticker on the front of the lp. You won't see his name there.

However he did remaster the UK 2016 Wish you were here which you can get through amazon uk and his name is on the cover. From reading about this on the Steve Hoffman forum, people who ordered and compared the UK version to the reissued North American version said the UK was superior soundwise.

As for dsotm I am sticking to my mint mofi copy.

The orig Canadian pressing of Dark Side Of The Moon is supposedly one of the best. I would think the Mobile Fidelity UHQR box set would still be the best out there. I have the 2016 reissue and the anniversary edition I think from 2011 and the CA pressing. The latest remasters happen to be excellent considering that at some point, the original master tapes used were the source but there is conversion to digital before that information reaches the cutting lathe. Piper At The Gates Of Dawn also sounds great (I have the Mono CD version as well). Meddle is great and I compared my Japanese pressing of Animals to the reissue and it has an edge but not as much detail as the 2016 reissue. So in the case of Floyd, I can recommend the latest reissues and we the know the record company is aware of how particular Floyd fans are.

I use various tables btw, Revolver with a Jelco 250 ST arm and Shure M97HE cartridge. Thorens TD126 MKIII with Rega RB250 installed on an oak mounting board, with JA Mitchel VTF weight (replaces the orig Rega), and Grado Premier Red 1 cartridge. I also have a Technics SL 1100A table with an EPA 110 and Nagoaka MP 11B cart.

I own a couple pressings of DSOTM
UK pressing (solid blue triangle) and US pressing
I find the UK to be far superior in depth of musical field...sounds cleaner
Even though some say the opposite for this particular EMI pressing

Not sure if they are using a different master or what

dsotm - 2016 vinyl release bought on Record Day ($26.98 +) to replace my 1980 unit. This is easily the best sounding 'new record' I have heard in years. Bang-up-job that makes my vintage 'floppy disc' sound like trash. Wow!

Lots of air between the instruments, open sound with no imaging limitations. Musical as in hearing the individual instruments with very good seperation and distinction that you hear the over all music - notes, beats, rhythm, etc.. it is a vague term I know but it was the one that came to mind.

Funny you mention that, as I have an original pressing of DSOTM that I'm looking to sell, as the 2016 version sounds much MUCH nicer.

This one is from 1973, but there was an earlier pressing...mine is this particular pressing with the INTERPAK™ Pats. Pending on the inside cover.

The 2016 sounds much more detailed, more alive. Towards the end of side one, Great gig in the sky just sounds incredible and alive with an extended top end. Its almost like they were able to massage more clarity and crispness out of the vocals on this particular track.

(Unfortunately, I have nothing else to reference to...just these 2 copies)

botelhda - I had the same reaction, as noted earlier, though my copy was from later. Just an incredible sounding album!!

When in Israel last year I picked up a Israeli 1st pressing of 'Wish You Were Here'...best version of this album I have heard.

I now look for Israeli 1st pressings of all LP's I purchase from DISCOGS...not that I always find them...but when I do they are always less money than their counterparts from other countries.

I've since learnt that a number of people treasure Israeli pressings because, being such a small market, far fewer are pressed than say in the UK or USA.
