Wish you were here circa 2011 VS the latest Floyd reissue. 2011 is a bit more musical sounding but with not as much detail. 2016 version images a bit better with more detail and a fuller bottom range in some ways. I compared Have A Cigar on both and the results are in. The latest reissue has a slight edge overall but the 2011 sound more analogue in a way- very close with some clarity, detail, freq range improvements- better overall mastering for the 2016 version. You could own either version and be happy so they are close in some ways.

I will be comparing my Floyd Animals Japanese import (the best sounding version imho) to the new 2016 reissue out soon.

Just wondering if you compared either one of these to the CBS Mastersound half-speed mastered version from '81...

no to the half speed mastered version- never heard it and same to the 2016 DSOTM reissue. I have the CA pressing and early 2011 reissue and have not hear the latest reissue of Dark Side. Apparently the orig tapes were used.. the floyd reissues are excellent. I have the Meddle reissue and compared it to the CA pressing, slightly better, more detail better range etc and the cover printing quality is better with the reissues.

I am curious.
Did you compared new release and '75 release?
I am in my process to built my Floyd collection.
I am looking for early release and possibly GB or US press. I never heard new release honestly.

Thank you.

I have the half speed version. Can't see myself wanting any other. Have had the US, CDN 1st pressings and Japanese. Still no comparable. Have not heard the UK version though.

The first time I read something about Half-speed version. (newbie).
What's exactly? I looked Discogs listings and see nothing about it.

Thank you.

I'm quite interested to hear more on this as I want to replace some of my worn Floyd LPs and maybe the reissues are the way to go vs. expensive high end older pressings...

Were you comparing the UK re-mastering or the US re-pressing? I was told they only remastered this album in the UK release and it's just a re-pressing otherwise. Maybe this has changed???

Released by CBS Mastersound (now Sony) in 1981. Due to the success of specialty record labels like Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs and Nautilus, many record companies decided to throw their hat into the ring and re-release half-speed remastered recordings of the bands/artists that they had under contract. CBS, MCA and A&M were probably the most active. WYWH was the 1st PF album released by CBS after the band ended their relationship with Capitol Records.

I have the half-speed version and I highly recommend it. The sq was clearly superior to the standard LP when I purchased it in '81 but I don't know how it stacks up against the other versions/pressings that the OP mentions. Although I've taken very good care of it and cleaned it before each play, it has a few pops & ticks and some noticeable surface noise between tracks because it's been in heavy rotation over the past 30+ years.

Half-speed mastering refers to the speed at which the lacquer is cut

In half-speed mastering, the analog tape (or digital source) is played back at half speed while the turntable on the disc cutting lathe is running at 16 2/3 RPM (i.e. half of 33 1/3 RPM). When you play the resulting LP back at regular speed, everything sounds at the original speed and pitch.

Half-speed mastering was invented for RCA's CD4 Quadradisc LP pressings in the early 1970s, when they had to figure out a way to get the 30kHz sub-carrier frequency into the grooves. By reducing the cutting speed in half, they could easily get 15kHz in there with no problem.

The 2011 LP of 'Wish You Were Here' is stupendous:

The 2016 LP of 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' is stupendous as well:

same conclusion here. 1st uk pressing would be the only other one I would try.
as far as DSOTM, nothing comes close to the UHQR.
