I'm still buying releases from last year...on Saturday I picked up John Hiatt's Terms of My Surrender and Lucinda William's Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone...both stellar!! I'll get Lana Del Rey's 2015 release...she's bit me baaaaaaaaad... :D...oh...and Steve Earle's Terraplane...out next month...

I recently came across an album called Chronicle by Lights & Motion. The album contains 9 songs (all instrumental). I read the wikipedia page of the band. They are from Sweden, and their music is described as cinematic rock. I have no idea what the term means.

You can listen to the songs on the record label's web site. The first track (Fireflies) is a good representation of the whole album.

The album is available for download on the "name-your-price" basis

King Crimson - Live In LA
Steven Wilson - Hand Cannot Erase
Kenny Wheeler - Songs For Quintet

Heard bits and pieces of the first two so far but none of the Wheeler disc yet.......all will be outstanding, I promise!

Not exactly a shiny new release for our overly expensive 2 channel rigs, but a new Glen Campbell song that is worth a listen - out of respect and an appreciation of what Alzheimer's patients and their families go through. I believe it's received an Oscar nomination for best song:

Lydia Loveless Somewhere Else
Great alt country album.
Think a countrified Stevie Nicks being backed up by Blue Rodeo.

Released in their native UK last year , but just released in N.A. in the last couple of weeks, the debut album from Temperance Movement. Anyone who thinks there are no new young acts making good rock music today should check this release out. Go over to Prostudiomasters where you can sample all of the songs on this release. A lot of influences worn on their sleeves including The Stones and early Black Crows among others. Nothing really original, but I am more interested in good music with solid playing and writing than originality. Purchased the digital FLAC file and it is already in heavy rotation, both on my portable and home rig.

Neil Finn-Dizzy Heights

Crowded House and Split Enz front-mans third solo release.

Despite all the past commercial success with Split Enz and in particular with Crowded House, Neil Finn is still one of today's most underrated singer/songwriter/ musicians. Neil is not afraid to experiment and broaden his horizons musically, his recent Pajama Club project given as ample evidence to support this assertion, all the while maintaining the impeccable and mature pop sensibilities that brought him all his previous success. Truly one of the most gifted melody writers in the history of the pop genre, his musical landscapes have helped to elevate pop music to new levels of maturity and sophistication, without sacrificing his signature accessibility. His latest release Dizzy Heights is no exception, continuing with Neil's recent trend of combining elements of electronica and trip hop with classic pop melodies in an eclectic fusion that is sure to please his long time fans and attract new ones.
