I'm trying to expand my musical listening. Raised on metal, listen to blues, jazz, rock, want to try some orchestra type violin, not too formal. Willing to pay fair market price for good quality vinyl [no K-Tel please!] blue note, etc. Thanx for any help,I need some! One other requirement is great soundstaging!

Trust me, there is no such thing as "fair market price" when it comes to original Blue Notes ;)

yup, stick to the Liberty or UA Blue Notes from the early 70's, and buy them from the US as they are stupid prices here in Canada.

If you want excellent pressings that rival originals try a few of the Music Matters Blue Note reissues. They aren't cheap ( $50 american) but they are the next best thing to the originals that you will ever hear. The pressings are quiet and flat and the packaging is top notch. You can get them at audiobasics.com in Canada for $65.00 Canadian with free shipping. If you are new to the Blue NOte jazz scene I would highly recommend Lee Morgan - Search For the New Land and Grant Green - Matador.
Just my .02 :)

If you're looking at trying out Orchestral music, I've had good success with Arthur Salvatore's list:

You may not like one particular type of music, but I've found his descriptions, in terms of sonic quality, to be spot on!

Hey y'all...

I have a worn but totally listenable copy of Time Fades Away with the insert (two in fact!) I'd like to swap for a copy of Tonight's The Night in the same condition. (VG/VG... surface noise here and there, the odd pop, but nothing *really* distracting).

PM me or post. (edit: gone)

Still desperately seeking:

Dwayne Cannan ~ Spare Change self released '80 / Edmonton
Moonstone ~ Moonstone on Kot'ai '73 / Montreal
Riverson ~ Riverson on Columbia '73 / Montreal
Soderman ~ Under Again self released '81 / Cross Creek, New Brunswick
Dana Westover ~ Memorial -or- Memorial To Fear on Wolf Music '72 / Montreal

Cash money awaits for any of the above but I also have a second copy of this:

for trade. Sealed/Mint straight up trade for any of the above. (edit: gone as well...)
