Actually, HMV offers a little program that is supposed to take care of the download. The problem is that it's only compatible with PCs and I'm a Mac. -Remember the ads?

I've got what Sympatico calls "Essential" which offers downloads at about 60kb/s. I started about a half hour ago, and the HMV download manager shows an estimated time remaining of 39 hrs.....

And so am I...

So, please let me know how long it takes. I'm interested, but if it takes like 7 or 8 hours hanging around my iMac, I'm not sure I will be sufficiently motivated to buy this. Thanks!

I've downloaded about 20 files so far and I get a message from HMV's server that says that my download limit has been reached and that I have to pay again... I'm actually pissed, but I understand the futility of being angry at a computer.
I guess I'll go to my dad's place and hijack his pc for two days. I'll probably bust his download limit while I'm at it. Ah! unconditional love! What would I do without you?

I've finished downloading the Hungarian Rhapsodies and have started on the pieces by the Amadeus Quartet. Tags could be better.....which quartets are these?

35 hrs to go at 65 kb/s.

This is one heckuva bargoon :D

edit: Right...Beethoven....the Rasumovski Quartet....recorded 1960. No wonder I liked it so much. But I gotta say it's amazing how much warmth digital sucks out of these old gems.

I just discovered a bug in the download manager. One file showed an error, and on cleaning up the list the file with the error is removed from the list, preventing any further download through the manager. I tried accessing the file through a browser link, but the server is inaccessible - error 9001.

I've addressed this with customer service....we'll see what happens.

edit: Just discovered the tracks aren't removed from the list - they're amended to the bottom. All of the downloaded ones, not just the errors.

Some goofy prog this one is....

I can see the allure of $8.99, but for $89US I downloaded the whole set as FLAC from DG directly, with the decent download script embedded in the site. Ok, I paid 10x the price you are, but I got 55 CDs in FLAC format w/ one or two mouse clicks, no organization. Still a great deal.

^ For the sheer wealth of musical artistry represented I'd be inclined to agree. However, I don't care to source my music in the form of a download from the web. I prefer my 'software' in the form of hard goods - preferably in a state that won't be obsolete anytime soon.

Only reason I'm downloading this is because at 9$ it's hard not to.... :)
