I have an external computer CD drive that I want to use as a CD transport - the only output is a USB 2 type B like a printer port.

I have a DAC with optical/toslink and coaxial inputs is there any way to connect the two ?
Please help

Thanks for the info, but it would be a bit over an overkill with a $30 cd drive
Anything cheaper

If you are trying to connect the external CD Drive directly to the DAC then it can not be done. The CD Rom needs something to instruct it, ie: an operating system (Windows/MAC OS/Linux etc)

That makes sense. Will it not start to "autoplay" when an audio CD is inserted ?

A driver is what instructs the CD Rom to auto play. This can be turned on or off within your OS.

Why not just connect your CD Rom to a computer, then you computer to the DAC?

This is an additional CD drive I have, I was hoping to put it to use as an "Audio" input for a garage system

Most cd drives have a play button which will start it reading an audio cd and play it without a computer connected. Inside the case on the drive you will find a header with right left and 75 ohm dig out . You will have to fabricate a 2 pin connector to a 75 ohm cable to a 75 ohm RCA connector . Yes I have done this twice . You do not need a computer . I removed the usb connection as it is also not needed .Before I modified the rear panel's I used the headphone out jack's on the fronts .

Unfortunately you are SOL without a computer. You have a smart phone or tablet? Stream to you garage?

Play and volume control on CD Rom drives went out of fashion many, many years ago. Newer drives do not even employ the audio out (digital and analog)
