I noticed the new 205 dosnt have Tidal support anymore. Does the 105D still have tidal support or is it now gone too?

The 105D should still have it. The 103D still does. Their two new players don't support it though.

IIRC, you need the Oppo phone app to access Tidal.

Definitely one of those situations where new isn't always better...I would think OPPO would have more Apps by now.

I have absolutely no interest in the new Oppo players. Oppo was always a great backup for me. If someone borrows the Melco from my system to try out, then I can still stream music from the Oppo. It is handy for YouTube as well. BluRay playback for me is nice, but the other functionality I find more important. I think they missed the mark for many without the streaming options.

I rely heavily on my Oppo for streaming Netflix and Tidal.

If the new players do not support the streaming options, what's a person to do? I'm using a 103, but when it goes, then what? Keep buying used or repairing this one? My Apple TV will work for Netflix, but Tidal is important.

BTW, I'm new to Tidal Hifi, having just finished my free month. It is the best thing that has happened to music in my life; I have access to many hundreds of classical releases, as well as a couple other genres that I dabble in. I saw it demoed at an audio store in London.

For me as a music aficionado, there is life before Tidal, and life after Tidal.

I think it was a big mistake for Oppo to drop streaming capability from their new players. I doubt I'd ever buy the 2xx series for that reason.

My thoughts exactly. What the hell were they thinking? They don't even have the YouTube and Netflix apps anymore either.

Cheap cheap cheap.

When I first bought the Oppo 83 years ago, technology was different. I had DVDs, BDs and CDs. I wore out one loading tray, so I had it replaced.

About 4 years ago I upgraded to the 103. My trends in media use have changed greatly since ... first with Netflix and YouTube, then I ripped my entire CD and DVD collection onto a 4TB hard drive and access it through the home screen. I thought this was progress.

Now 90 percent of my use is streaming ... even the CDs I own I just stream from Tidal; most movies are watched in NetFlix, and I rent through Apple TV the ones that are not there, which I also feed through my Oppo player ... so it is a veritable streaming hub. I rarely load a physical disc now (though I do like physical media). But for convenience, selection, and cost, streaming can't be beat.

If the new players are mainly suited to playing physical media, they have stepped back a number of years, in order to satisfy those few videophiles who must have 4K resolution.

+1
Yes, indeed.

See USAudiomart right now for a full-on Tidal debate - that forum topic is fun and getting vexatious...

Perhaps the Oppo plan is separating the streaming from the disk players and moving it to only the dac. The new Sonica offers full support for Tidal and Spotify.
