Unfortunately, 4K won't be happening in this household until the projectors get a bit more affordable.

I can't believe my parents just bought an RCA 4K for a little over $800.
4K projectors are still WAY expensive! Even a good 1080P projector is not cheap.

Oh well..... patience. :(

Using an Oppo (or any universal player), are SACDs downsampled in the unit itself and then outputted through their coax-out etc if I were to use an external dac? As far as I understand, Sony doesn't allow SACD output unless it's by HDMI but I'm not familiar with any dac that has that.

SACD output is not downsampled/converted to the coax output; it is the CD layer of the SACD disk (if present on hybrid SACDs) that gets output to the coax. This in not a Sony issue; that is the way SACD copy protection was designed to work from day 1. Native SACD can only be legally and technically output on certain interfaces; HDMI being just 1 of them.

Thanks guys!

Do any of the universal players have a Dac-loop option?

I have the XBOX One S (4K) to my Moon 300D DAC...would the 205 be better? Maybe...

Bought Planet Earth II in 4K Blue-Ray and it is awesome, not sure if the 205 would have made a difference.

So SACD output to RCA 2 Channel would be converted D/A internally (new ESS sabre chip)? You wouldn't require a stand alone dac would you? Or what your saying is to output to a DAC HDMI would be required?

Has anyone heard the New OPPO BDP-205? How does it stack up to a regular SACD Player for 2 Channel?

Thanks

Ignoring the ever- fluctuating foreign currency exchange fluctuations that impact all-in price, and the hassle of cross-border shipments and levied import duties, I would more concerned about warranty terms and warranty repairs.

In general, if you buy in the US, it is only a USA warranty only with no coverage in Canada. So if you are obliged to have it serviced, then be prepared -- at your own carrier shipping cost including additional insurance costs both ways -- to ship it to the designated US warranty repair shop.

Unless it expressly documented in the warranty on purchase (unlikely) , No warranty repairs or service done in Canada qualify and if you persist in having it done in Cansda will be on your dime and you will immediately and expressly void any remaining US warranty term.

Is worth the gamble and potential gamble for saving a few bucks at best !

Not to me ....

Good point about warranty issues....
But WHY do so ,many Camers talk about "duties"?????

It's usually just HST unless you are stupid enough to pay BROKERAGE FEES.

I am also sticking with my Oppo BDP-95. I don't use it much anymore as I have upgraded to a better DAC (Calyx Femto) and stream music with a Bryston BDP-2 or movies with my Stream Team Android box. I use it sometimes for DVD or BluRay movies and as a transport for CD's I haven't ripped yet. And for the few SACD's I have.

I spent a lot on my 1080p Mitsubishi HC-5 projector ($3500) but I love the picture on my 106" screen and feel no need to upgrade. I even bought a second used one as a back up in the bedroom system with a 92" screen along with 3 extra bulbs. Mitsubishi does not offer much support for this projector so having a second one works for me. And my 60" Samsung plasma tv is also working just fine so I think I am covered on the video side for quite a while.

You can't take it with you so you might as well enjoy it while you can. Plus I am setting myself up for retirement next year when the funds won't be as much.
