I ordered a Marantz 6005 cd player and received a UD 5007 instead how do they compare? it seems to me from what I read here that the 6005 is a better unit.

Apples and oranges.... The UD5007 is a universal player that also streams. I have one in the bedroom and am quite happy with it for that purpose. I believe the 6005 only plays CDs so it may do that one job better than the UD 5007 ( I've never heard the 6005 ) but the 5007 plays almost everything and I've never found it lacking ( especially for its price ).

Meridian 506.20, if you can find one that has a good laser. I would have said 508.24 but I guess they would be over $300

DCD-1500, definitely;
Philips CD-473, other vintage Philips and Marantz with TDA-1541 / 1541A;
Newer professional Denon (after 2004), not made in China.

Regarding Shanling, had CD-T80, one of the worst digital sources in my life (I auditioned over a hundred different CD players in the last 10 years).
CD-T80 was sold as soon as it was compared to Philips CD-880, took less than 5 minutes.
It was earth and sky difference, yes, that bad.

Have you tried posting in the ad section of this website, where most people buy and sell things?

I have a Denon DCD 1520 that I got cheap years ago.
No problems.
Heavy unit.

Nice to see fans of Denon, I have 2 DCD-1500's. What can I say..I love them.

My main CDP's are 2 Dynaco CDV-2's. Hard to find nowadays but they are far better than many usual suspects.

I've had an Onkyo DX7555 for years now, excellent sounding workhorse!

Once you upgraded the tubes, opamps and caps this unit was a giant-killer.

People who listened to mine swore they were listening to a turntable. One of my acquaintances, who was an audio tech for 40 years (now retired), thought it was the best sounding CPDP he had ever heard (and he has listened to a LOT of them).

I've since upgraded to an Esoteric DV-50S which, while more revealing than the T80, isn't as 'warm' sounding.

In the end, it all depends on what you like, I suppose?

I agree. I've had some very expensive cd players over the years and my cd t80 with upgraded tubes was and still is one of the best sounding players I have heard. Very warm and detailed. Lifelike vocals. I am a vinyl guy the majority of time but I still love my Shanling.
