Imagine in Canada the Flagship AV Receiver Sony STR-ZA5000ES retails for $3500 and you can get a new in unopened box on eBay for $800U.S.
Some things are just not fair...

It's an auction with a single bid at $800. Who knows where it will end at.

not sure if this still applies, but it could be at work here.
in the case of Sony, many of their products show up with unauthorized dealers. It was once explained to me that with so much production worldwide a lot of grey market components wind up in the marketplace. Sony will not honour warranty on these so it can be a crap shoot

and whats the problem with these weird alpha numeric numbers ( STR-ZA5000ES), it can stretch from here to the moon sometimes... could we stick to the basics please?

one new in box ended up selling on eBay the other day at $1300,u.s. about $1780cdn still way better than $3500cdn.
Maybe still to much for some, but compared to the asking price of some of the equipment here on Canuk, priced at 300 and up % more than the stuff was new, it's a deal.

Maybe a crap shoot, but what's the difference between eBay and this site?
I buy a 40 year old amp here at 3 times or more the price it was new and I don't get any warranty either. As a matter of fact, ods are that when I plug that 40 year old amp in it may puff smoke out within a half an hour.. been there done that a couple times now..

Roll the dice with an AVR warranty? no thanks. Chances are that 40 year old amp is worth restoring if it has issues.

Your right, I paid $1000 for a vintage amp a couple years back, plugged it in and it puffed smoke after 20 minutes. A year and a later and another $1600 I now have a wonderful vintage amp that isn't worth half what I have in it.
The Sony has a 5 year warranty, that's 4 years more than on there many many thousands of dollar LED TV's so they must have some confidence in them. I know the one on eBay is excluded, but the seller has a reputation just like the sellers do on canuck.

it is on eBay.com, not .ca...
direct link is:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/172541889984?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

one use to be able to search by item number regardlessof which site..

Hey C3 if it looks like its going for cheap enough, why don't you buy it. A fairly accurate final tally for you will be whatever you pay plus another 50% for taxes, exchange, and shipping. You could just get a square trade warranty...supposedly hassle free.

Unless I am reading it wrong the first bid is $800 and there are 4 days left on the auction.

Well you could ask about shipping to Canada or just get it shipped to one of the border places like Ship Happens, that's what I do.
Sure 4 days left, maybe the bids go through the roof or maybe not.

I am 10 minutes from the U.S. border and I just ship to a holding centre there. I would bid on it but I already spent the $$$ on a retail unit... Seems every time I see a ridiculously low price on a item on eBay and I just watch it, it goes for peanuts. For example, just a couple things like, last week a Sansui X11 went for $6xx , a Weisss DAC2 for $8xx, on canuck your talking hundreds if not a grand more for such stuff easily, I know, I watch and check every dayd.
