I have no idea for how much you sold the speakers for. But certainly for someone who cannot hear the higher register and who can loose the tweeters during a listening session without noticing, a MSRP 12K$ pair of speakers "sounds" a little over the top. I might be in the same league as you hearing-wise (I was a pro rock musician in my younger years); perhaps it is time for us to buy 50-buck speakers at the nearest WalMart, and go for a few more nice wine bottles (that is if, like me, you can still somehow taste what you drink).

Not really sure why this big apology couldn't have been emailed to the poor fellow rather than posted in forum?

Is this to potentially preserve feedback?

As per CAM rules, if no transaction occurred, no feedback can be given.

Fair enough, guess I just didn't see a purpose for publicizing what should be IMHO an apology or conversation between two people. It also seemed weird that blowing two tweeters went unnoticed.

Good to know about the above policy though.

@OP, thanks for posting this. The folks that do their best to make it right are CAM's best asset. Hats off to them all, and I hope I can manage to stand with them if the need ever comes.

Probably. Nothing like a good enema to start the week off right. Sorry Stone, didn't realize I had said something offensive. I'll just resist the urge to post my opinion next time.

Sorry everyone

I just checked and rbridi has zero posts here in the forums so he can't send or receive Personal Messages on CAM. However he logged-on to CAM today so hopefully he read Brian's apology.

All props to the OP for full disclosure.

I had a simliar situation with a much less expensive pair of speakers. I went to listen to a pair of Scanspeak .15L three way speakers. Very rare in NA as they were sold mostly in Europe and Asia I believe. Scanspeak made drivers use in Dynaco's, Boston Accoustic, Mission 770 etc..The cabinets on these weigh a ton, very well made and internally braced. These are like very nice Dynaco A35 but three ways. After hearing them for only a short time, I notice one had a tweeter not working. The owner hadn't notice since the speakers were so far apart and he tended to sit on the opposite side of one of them when he listened to them due to his limited seating set up.

Anyway, he not only offered gas money for the trip, he said to me. "take them for half of what I'm asking and pick up a tweeter" which I did. Mistakes happen and you notice issues like that sometimes after the buyer is at your home. As long as you make up for the inconvenience or at least offer to do so, no harm done. This is why I demo before buying or selling.

My wife and I had a chat, and I think we figured out how the tweeters got damaged
she reminded me, that when I was removing the stylus from the last record I played
the arm slipped out of my fingers and bounced on the record.
The volume control had not been turned down, silly me :x

This is what happens when you spin vinyl after a nice bottle of Red, and 3 or 4 nice 18 year old single malt scotch.

I have had an Email, from Rob. He was upset that the deal did not work out, he accepted my apology now its water under the bridge.
Good luck to him on his speaker quest.

I did have a couple of other people who said they where interested, but Rob had 1st dibs.
The 2rd person in line has agreed to take the speakers as is, for $500.00 more than I would have sold them to Rob.
He has sent me a deposit, once all funds have been received I will ship the speakers.

Lesson learned, do not spin vinyl after a bottle of Red.

The normal way I sell items here, under $500.00 I send the item to the interested party without receiving a dime
asking the person, if they are happy with the product, send me the funds. If not happy please return it. I have never had an item returned
but always got my funds.

The last major Item I sold, was my set of Carver Silver Seven amps for $15000.00 usd. I did know the person who wanted them
so I shipped them to him in Seattle, before I had received any funds. I did get the cheque 3 weeks later.

Thanks for all the positive comments, even the couple of negative ones. As I am 100% deaf in my right ear
I have to sit down and relax before I can get absorbed in the music, when Rob had arrived i had just return from an emergency service
call at work, and was hipper about that. If Rob would have arrived 2hrs later. I would have told him there was a problem.

Thanks for listening, it has helped Brian
