While having no personal experience with this, at 140 lbs, I wouldgo to the expense of palletizing the speakers in addition to using closed cell foam etc. Good luck! Not something I would go to the trouble of doing.

It feels like the incidence of scamming is increasing here on CAM. Long-time members, what are your thoughts? I haven’t purchased anything too esoteric here but I also find that it is ok to step away from a transaction that doesn’t feel right because you are being asked to do something against your ...

Synergy aside, I have to admit that I’m surprised by the number of posters who spend such a small percentage of their audio budget on speakers. Excluding my old speakers that I am holding onto, my system breakdown would be: Speakers: 50% Turntable setup: 20% Amplification: 23% Digital source: 5% Cab...

With new vinyl I find I usually get what I pay for. I don’t know if this is true for others but a $35 album will sound good more often than a $20 album. Not always but most of the time. I think that new albums from big names that are pressed in higher numbers often sound the worst. Adele would fit t...

Not a big name concert per se but very recently (as in two weeks ago) we went to the Sound of Music festival in Burlington. Born Ruffians opened for Tokyo Police Club and gave a far stronger, more engaging performance. For a three-man band, they can make a lot of noise (good noise). Great live band.

A lot of 1% ers don’t have time to sit down and listen to music. They lead busy lives. Most people would far prefer to plop down in front of the TV and watch the game with what precious leisure time they have.

I wonder if some audiophiles are turned off by Totem because of the marketing (not too many companies have female models pose with speakers in photos!) and the unabashed promotion of lifestyle products? Maybe the company isn’t “hardcore” enough, not nerdy enough. However, the company has survived an...

Rightfully or wrongfully, I've always thought that cities with very long winters are a better market for hi fi equipment because people cocoon more of the year. This should have helped Calgary a bit (but maybe not as much as Edmonton). Although the store carried some great brands, it didn't seem par...

Wow, I popped in there back in March and they were talking about picking up a new line. They had some nice stuff but the actual store was tired. What a shame; some really nice brands carried.

Here is the actual paper from which the Telegraph drew its editorialized conclusions. Read it for yourself: it makes no mention of certainty in predictions and correlations, Rather the expressed limitations of the study are large and inferences and conclusions at very best are termed as a vague &qu...

The paper's findings were also reported in The Economist. You must be an extrovert.

Just providing an update. I got my 24 inch Skylan stands yesterday - very quick service from Noel (Thank you). Although the standard size is 27 inch for this speaker, I prefer the slightly shorter stand as it fits better with my seating position. The sound difference is INCREDIBLE. Not subtle at al...

Ive seen alot of reviews saying that Totems need alot of power to drive them, I dont have an opportunity to listen to them and I was wondering on what the thoughts were with pairing them with a Primaluna amp? Which Primaluna amp are you referring to? How many watts? I've heard Tribe Towers run off ...

High-end audio equipment is a luxury good. For those who have significant financial means, the high cost of equipment doesn't faze them because other luxury items that they acquire (cars, wine, watches, jewellery, clothing etc.) cost far more than their intrinsic value. When they buy these items, th...
