For playing digital, DAC has by far the biggest impact, at least if using a macbook as a source. The DAC in macbook is just so terrible. Chord Mojo had the biggest effect on my system. Then preamp. Then amp. Then speakers. Budget speakers can sound amazing with a good source and good preamp. The rev...

First generation B&W dm602's, back when they were made in England. What a phenomenal speaker. They really do sound better than some speakers that cost thousands. They can be found used for a couple hundred bucks (although not many people want to sell them...I still have a pair!) I have a pair of...

Metallic ring! Sounds like floor to ceiling multiple reflections. This flutter echo can be eliminated with thick carpeting and ceiling treatment. If the distance between your parallel walls is smallish (less than 10 feet), this may also be contributing to the flutter echo. What you describe is usua...

Fixed the issue. Bought a Chord Mojo to replace my Dragonfly and no more harshness whatsoever. The signal coming out of the Chord Mojo is much hotter than the Dragonfly; I now leave my Arcam at 32 instead of 40 and the SPL is roughly the same. Since this means that the current being pulled from the ...

It has one micro USB port for audio and one micro USB port for charging. So, you could charge and play audio in powerful.

So I caved and bought the chord mojo. I'll keep this brief: this piece of gear has made a bigger impact than anything I have ever purchased. It is leaps and bounds better than the Dragonfly. Sound is sublime. Everything is cleaner, clearer, and imaging is more precise. Vocals are smoother, bass is ...

What's the most aesthetic way to acoustically treat a room without using ugly auralex stuff?

My pro audio buddies always laugh at the idea of audiophiles spending thousands on gear and then not doing any room treatment. They have a real point, but I need my living room to be aesthetically pleasing.

So I turned down the volume a little from max on my dragonfly to give some more headroom, and turned up the volume on the Arcam to get back to the same volume level. It sounds cleaner to my ears. Perhaps the output from the Dragonfly was too hot, although it shouldn't be possible to clip a digital s...

I step in and add my two cents worth now and again but most of the time I refrain as invariably you get into a debate steeped in opinion and everyone has opinions which are seldom in sync with others. After reading some of the nonsense including throwing large sums of money at the problem in the bl...

I, too, think you might be running into clipping. Your A19 is rated at 50 watts into 8 Ohms, 90 into 4 Ohms. This would be great for jazz, but playing heavy rock at high volumes will over-tax it, unless you are running more efficient speakers. Look for something well over 100 watts/side, preferably...

So we come to that all important question, what's your budget?

Would rather not spend more than the speakers. So 1600 max, would be great to get it under 1000.

Would something like this work?

If it sounds harsh during the high transients it means that your Arcam is clipping due to its inefficiency in delivering enough juice to make them sing properly. All I can say is try them with another quality power amp with more robust power. Don't listen to some fly-by-night comments regarding the...
