The 2 big caps are in pretty bad status, after all 30 yrs passed...

Replaced original 18,000uf caps with 22,000uf caps, same brand and size...

Relay...the part in music gears which is moving and has contacts...even though no heat...as time goes, trouble emerges...mostly the contact surface gets carbonized and left some black residuals...bad contact ... Use solderwick remove fader from PCB...
Clean it, lubricant it with DeoxIT F...
“seal" it with piece of tape...move on

A friend has a Marantz 1152 int. amp made in Japan around 1980...needs a bit restore .... The transformer is heavy, bit of tricky how to disassemble this amp... -Remove the top cover; -Turn the amp upside down; -Remove bottom panel ... voilà... -Two main power filter caps are huge, diameter around 4...

Ahh I see. But what is that small transformer for under the PSU? I'm assuming that is the blue box on the board, which I thought was a relay. That is a lot of extra work with the power supply! NICE! Sometimes the complication at the power supply side is necessary to get better and more stable volta...

Very Nice! Just a few parts questions : On your power supply bottom portion, I see an EMI filter, toroid, rectifier, I'm guessing the board with 2 relays and transformer is the soft start, and is the green board with 2 caps a DC filter? What is the extra relay for and what is the board with just 2 ...

So Frank, it seems like you have selected the circuit for the tube preamp. Is it just a question of finalizing the component values and tweaking it a bit. How much gain do you think you will need ?
