The elephant in the room has always been the very problematic non linearity of the Analog to Digital converters. Big problem. It remains unsolved. We tend to record analog signals and covert into digital as the act of recording itself. It makes for a very non trivial problem. To add, how the hear e...

pj[/quote] Not sure what your point is but, are you saying that we need >16 bits (ie 24 bits or 32 bits) in order to have enough dynamic range to hold all music? -- July 14th, 2018, 10:44 am -- ( RE: "...Not sure what your point is ..." ) You claimed CD/Digital has a superior dynamic range...

I paired the Sonica with the 2017 Brio and a pair of Audio Physics I had at the time. A stellar little set up for about $3k, (all new), with streaming, digital and analogue strengths. IMG_0881.JPG Nice system. That would be much better served by a quality, modular/stack-able spiked (and reasonably ...

I asked: " .. Do you know (I know you don't) how CD's dynamic range is measured ?" And you replied: "..I do." But failed to explain how a digital music signals dynamic range is measured ? (Yes, we know it's in decibels.) Would your beloved and impressive 96-125 db. Digital/CD Dy...

Lol. If you were older than 20-25 YOA (and had any useful experience), yes LP's (correctly stated) 70-db DNR sounds far more dynamic than CD's. Do you know (I know you don't) how CD's dynamic range is measured ? I do. If you find that digital isn't more dynamic than vinyl then blame the recording/m...

" But the vinyl always seems to have ... greater dynamic range." and " ... But vinyl still sounds much more like a real live musical instrument" pj So 70dB vinyl (on a good day) has greater dynamic range than 90+ dB CD? Vinyl sounds more like real live instrument? I never heard ...

I second the nomination for the Micromega MyDac. It was my intro to digital and I bought it when it was new, at close to the full list price (near $400 CDN if I recall). Tons and tons of raves online in the audio press and consumer reviews. I sold it for well under $200 and have seen it on CAM for ...

For me its really simple. I own several recordings on both cd and vinyl. Many of which I know were recorded high res dig in the studio. I always prefer listening to the vinyl. Could be because my dig playback source is $20k+ retail versus my vinyl playback source is $40k+ retail price. But the viny...

So I've been wanting to post this up for quite a long time now but never really had the gumption for it since I really didn't want to deal with all the backlash and nonsense I would receive on the topic but at this point I feel its kind of important regardless of all the comments people are going t...

I looked for Part one. No joy. For fun, cos I'm in the mood, what about this: a Pioneer sx-1980 at 7k$ on CAM right now. Wtf? I know how good it is as I had a Rotel rx-1603, at least its equal. Before the mods lock it, chime in on this forum topic, do... Damn your girlfriend looks good (or is thaty...

I am new here and have done a fair bit of reading since I joined. Lots of experience here ! I now buy mostly NAD amps and B&W and Energy speakers. For CD players my main unit is an older Arcam Alpha 1 CD player, also have two changers, Pioneer Elite and a Denon. My stuff sounds good to me but I...

Great sounding CD players are rare, and the rest are similar, more or less, many with the same pitfalls in timing, dull sound and flat soundstage. That's regardless of budget. Newer does not mean better. Often the reverse is true. Try Marantz CD-95, Philips CD 880. Get a transparent amp (the cheape...

Which power cables are known to be good for power bars? or are they called power strips? . Are there a few that are known to be excellent for this purpose? I need an 8 foot run from power bar to outlet. Thanks guys. Any #16 AWG (or #14 AWG) over-the-counter black, every day AC power cord to connect...
