If you can't tell the difference then you can certainly save a lot of money. My feeling is that with audio, once you hear certain things (even if you believe you hear certain things), you can't 'unhear' them. Again, my opinion based on fallible experience, is that some dacs, or really any source, c...

Also, don't forget your source. I've had dacs that sound more punchy and lively than others. A different amplifier may help, but if it is amplifying a source that isn't giving you what you want you could be fighting with the wrong thing. And then sometimes, if you like a 'punchy' sound and your spea...

The room doesn't look like it should be too bad for sound. There does look to be a lot of stuff between the speakers. I would try to wall-mount the tv to be much closer to the wall and simplify the gear in between. I would double check phase as others have suggested. I also would consider updating t...

If you really can't hear much of a difference between the tubes you already have tried, I'm not sure you would hear a difference buying more expensive tubes. 'More expensive' doesn't always equal 'better' when you can't tell the difference. I had that amplifier several years ago and I could hear dif...

I am fascinated by threads where people can hear an obvious and major difference in certain cables. Now 'obvious' and 'major' differences in this hobby are probably pretty slight by general standards but they should be pretty noticeable to those that are constantly tweaking their system and already ...

There seems to be a handful of dacs based on the early Philips chips run in NOS mode that are still made, so there must be fans of the sound. And while many reference the tda 1541 as the 'king' of these chips, other cheaper chips can sound pretty nice and seem to be easier to make sound good in a da...

But recommend at 1000hz with what order slope? We also have to take into consideration what this woofers is being paired with? The above is really key and you haven't provided enough information. If you are pairing with a horn, the size of the horn (in addition to the driver) can limit how low you ...

If you are paying for music, I like to order used cds off of Amazon instead of paying for a file and it is usually less expensive. Used cds are not like buying second hand vinyl. You only really need them to read once when importing them to your computer and usually they will read fine even if in pr...

I think it is worth trying. Usually DIY is over-the-top with better drivers, better inductors and better capacitors than you will see in a commercial design. The box often may be better built but depending on wood working skills might be lacking compared to commercial designs. If you have a box that...

The sound and craftsmanship is both fantastic. As for your concerning comment, I ask, did you read all the comments and pick out the 1 negitive and not read all said about the purchase of a set and how pleased that purchaser was/is. I will dig deep into that comment myself, being at both shows Fran...

I have had problems when I have set speakers back in a 'cove' such as you have or when I have put bookshelf speakers in a bookshelf. They never sounded right. I would just temporarily try moving the speakers out of the cove and out in front of the doors you have to the left and right of the cove. Ev...

I can't see how you could go wrong. Being able to use it at home, with your current speakers/system is the ultimate way to try it out. Is there a reason you would have reservations? +1. Nothing like doing a demo in your own home with your own gear. If you have this opportunity I can't see why the h...

Sometimes a wire is rubbing on the woofer cone and you just need to gently bend it away from the cone so it won't vibrate on the cone. Hopefully it is something simply like this but you would need to remove the woofer to check this.

I'm assuming from the name of the speaker that it is pretty small. The manufacturer probably has squeezed whatever bass can be gotten out of it. Lengthening the port will give more extension but probably roll off the bass earlier and perceived bass may be less. Likely the response is due to a shorte...
