If you bought it as working and it doesn't try to get your money back something could have been damaged in shipping or something that was about to break broke.

I have a 740c that was doing the same thing. Look at all the large capacitors and see if any are bulged at the top. There's a large one on the left front pc board that was bad in mine fixing it solved the problem. Its a relativly new unit but they use really cheap chinese capacitors, all of the larg...

Unless there is a definite problem with them you won't hear very much difference. I've done it before on b&w and other speakers and it just wasn't worth the effort, if you aren't satified with the sound just change the speakers.

Cassette decks have a very limited market these days, someone has to really want one plus good tapes are getting expensive and harder to find. You could go $400 and wait a month or as $300 and it could sell within days

I've had buyers start with "I'll take it" let me know shipping cost, I'll usually reply within 2 hours with a price but 50/50 if I ever get a response again. Not sure if your case is similar but it can get frustating after many like this.

If I had seen the ad I would have taken it.

Those units have very poor quality capacitors in the power supply in my 740 they were all very far from spec and some were bulging and leaking, I've never seen such junk in any other modern gear.
