Neither. I am betting on a kit. Perhaps, authorized through Dynaco. I agree, the same woofer and very similar tweeter as what you would see on a 40XL - but, no painted fascia, unlabelled (wrong binding posts), and (unless re-grilled) no way they cut and stapled them like that. That fabric is not fac...

Yes, someone got a couple good buys. The McIntosh, Lux, and Marantz stuff was priced (asking) around $300 each. They were gone when I got there. Just one Perreaux amp that they wanted far too much for. Kinda sad, Estate Sales - someone's treasures at some point...Hopefully they went to a good home w...

I have had several quality tuners, and a couple of Magnum Dynalabs (very overrated in my opinion, and very cheesy build-quality) ... although I do still use their GAM FM antenna. I enjoyed my Sansui TU-9900, but I couldn't resist the prices they fetch. I kept my TU-717, which is not far from the 99...

Dynalab FT-101A with ST2 whip.
Sansui TU717
Sansui TU9900

Interestingly, I preferred them in the above order.

Good read.
Now, I just scared the sh;$ out of myself when (for a moment) thought about calculating what has been spent over the years...then I said, nah - that would take the fun out of it.

Realistically, I've never seen a real find at a thrift shop. Perhaps a $100 pair of speakers for $15 bucks, but nothing of real value. I've heard scores of "deals" that folks have said to have found. The reality is that I think a lot of these stories are just that. I figure any real valuab...

I have decided a long time ago to not be rude to someone offering me money for something... See, my profession is sales. A inquiring body is better than none. Every sale starts from a conversation - some open the door for negotiations, some end at a cross roads. In many instances, I was determined I...

Why BS? The machining used for the original tables has been around since the late 70’s. It can only be upkeeped for so long before the cost of maintenance becomes too much. The dust cover is just one very small aspect of the design, and not a very important one IMO. User Costa94109 (of SimAudio) ga...

Considering the SL-1200G is 5k, you'd expect its going to be double.

In the grand scheme, you can pay alot more for a turntable. I have no doubt, for those with the means, its second to none in its class.

Just look at that sexy platter.

looks like antique sound labs gear. good modest gear, good honest sound.

i don't think there is a market to fake JJ tubes. they are likely just what they are, JJ's. nothing wrong with them, good honest tubes.

I used to use a Tivoli Audio Blue Tooth Connector... I was often annoyed with "drop out" of stations. I figured it was my Internet. Recently, I bought a music player from Technics. I use the "airplay" function. I never get a single drop out anymore and - the music sounds about te...

Certainly a couple ideas...thanks, Yes, when you slide balance it still cuts, it does not affect it. Volume, not really affecting. Wiggle the Stereo Mono switch, and voila. Hence my thought the switch is dirty. DC at outputs looks good..., have not really gone past that yet. I'll clean it up and see...
