just to top it up...I was just looking at the GR series and compared to the SE versions...the GR seems to be more "modern" sounding, so it all boils down as others said what "sound" you like...if it is the old sound, you may get good deals now on the SE series as everyone jumped ...

my son has the A9 for a couple of years...they actually picked up new chosen cover for it while living in Berlin as tat one was not available in Vancouver...yes he works as IT guy....

not that you cannot drive the JBL nicely with Mac tubes...it just sounds better on the Altecs (especially the model 19) with particular MC 240 or MC30 monos....otherwise you will never go wrong with combo like McIntosh and JBL for sure.....The 4430 are also better suited to SS as these are from &quo...

I could not see what amp you want to use with them, but I would go for Altec 19 if you want to be in vintage McIntosh MC 240 or MC 30 camp....for all other amplifications I would go for JBL for sure.
