. Amazing. I'm going to agree right back, it does make us look stupid. Grown, educated men comparing copper wire is the height of ludicrous behaviour.
+1 Every cable thread I have ever read always devolves into some sort of "mine is bigger than yours" thing. I agree that ever...

Remind me to never share any of my experiences with vendors. For me, let the guy share his positive opinion (and that is what it is; his opinion)...if you can state your personal preferences in a positive way, then share. No need to slag others IMO. What the heck is with cable threads? :?

Q Up looks like a plastic mousetrap. And I have heard comments on the net of folks who could not use them....perhaps the height? Not sure, but after reading about them and looking at it, I gave the "mousetrap" a pass. Currently getting off my chair before my stylus bifurcates the vinyl.....

So I managed to clean the area around the arm pivot. I then readjusted the VTF to 1.5gr and weighed the cartridge using the Shure sfg 2 scale. Again the weight was dead on.Moving the arm right to left on and off the scale altered the weight slightly. As soon as I would lift the arm higher the weigh...

I have heard $100,000 speakers sound absolutely dreadful and then having bought them, sound amazing in my home. Wow, it's a bit unusual for someone to buy a $100,000 speakers that sounded "absolutely dreadful". Would you mind sharing what kind of speakers are these?
Val, you took ...

I thought the show was instructive and, as a student of human nature, entertaining. Let's face it; this show is a TON of work to put on and demonstrate your equipment. Each and every booth was manned by folks working day and night, on their feet, for the "unwashed masses"; of whom, how man...

Dry lubricant is most likely the wrong way to go. I suggest using a silicone lubricant. Available in a spray with a small nozzle to get into the pivot area. Mask the rest of the turntable base with paper towels to prevent overspray, apply a small amount of the lubricant onto the pivots. Deoxit conta...

One pet peeve I had was the number of people having conversations in the doorways. Each room only had one entrance/exit but people didn't seem to care they were inconveniencing others. Agree in spades. There was one idiot who followed me into three different rooms, chatting all the time. What a git...

Their recording values have always been top notch. Becker and Fagan never wanted to tour; I heard it was primarily that they could not guarantee the quality of sound that they could do in the studio. I was lucky enough to see Becker last year in concert. He was far from his prime. But the venue was ...

Demographics. If you get a chance, go to the library and borrow "Boom, Bust, and Echo" is a Canadian publication. A bit dated now, but the demographic perspective is very current. As others have so eloquently stated, "Hi Fi" is dying. What is the average age of CAMers? Mid ...

The Shelter 201 with essentially the same body is a great sounding, robust cartridge with a big sound. My two favourite carts at around the $300 price point are the Shelter 201 and the Denon DL-110. Quite different sounding, but both quite entertaining. I am interested; how do they differ? The 110 ...

Yes I went through it checking all the caps and replace a couple if the lights cleaned all the pots and switches. This unit hasn't been used much it's mint condition and came from the original owner just a little dust inside. I will be looking for a professional to rebuild the luxman. Any suggestio...

Yeah the move these days has been to replace all the audio path caps, power supply caps, clean the switches and pots, replace lamps (some use LED instead of the orig 8V lamps). Then, they ask for more than twice what the actual resale price would be otherwise. I don't know if they are getting the mo...
