Sometimes it is all about the vintage experience. I restore Jaguars for a living; if we all wanted perfect driving, no leaks, smooth road-holding, etc......well, I would be out of business. Sometimes it is just cool to experience music the way it was played 40 or 50 years ago. Warts and all (accordi...

I have a minty (sorry Tom R) Sansui TU-999 that I picked up a while ago. It needs a new string. So it is just sitting on my main system rack looking really cool 8) I normally don't buy things just for the esthetics. But I am starting to build a stack of amps in the basement. Even have a highly regar...

Same sort of deal. I ended up with about 400 CDs a while ago. All in great shape, with original artwork, jewel boxes etc. I kept about 40 of them as they were my flavour of music. The rest (C&W) I gave away. Good news is I only paid $40 for the lot. In other words I paid ten cents apiece. I agre...

The last set of speaker grills I cleaned was in the bath tub. Add half a cup of Mr Clean and a small squirt of dish soap to about three or four inches of warm water.....drop the grills in so the whole cloth is submerged at once...then raise and lower the grill multiple times. You should see the dirt...

62, been doing this stuff since the seventies. My kids are in their early to mid twenties. My 21-year old is into vinyl and loving it. Music lovers are all ages. "Audiophiles" are typically in their fifties to seventies IMO.

http://herbiesaudiolab.net/spkrfeet.htm Good products with no daft pricing Plus one. I use the Big Fat Dots on top of marble for my large speakers. They work reasonably well with cabs containing 15 inch woofers... Another benefit is that I have about 8 pairs of half-inch tall ones, and 4 pairs of 1...

The process of cutting an lp involves a liquid cutting compound I believe.I wonder after all that time if it would compromise the surface? The owner of a local record shop once told me sealed records of that age are useless.Of course if they are collected and not opened it doesn't matter. Your recor...

How about this . Listing goes up for said item. Minutes later someone is asking under wanted ,the very same item. What’s going on here ? Coincidence or other intentions? I am laughing. I just placed an ad on a Minty set of speakers (sorry, Tom; couldn't resist).....I got two responses in two minute...

Simple test...wrap the TT with kitchen tin foil. See if it stops. If it does, all the other internal wiring suggestions are yours to follow. 'Power chords'... Love spell check or lack of.. 2 posters spelled it...I had instant visions of big circular swinging arm guitar player....I hate my iThings s...

We cannot answer this question for you. If you are looking for justification, tell your wife we told you that you HAD to buy the new CD player 8) . That line, by the way, does NOT work for me!

First off, why change the tubes? If the unit worked and played well with the selection you had, then stick with it for a while to get used to the sound. Then, and only then, start changing things. New tubes often do not make for a better sound. Not to mention that brand new tubes may take a hundred ...

Why get bothered? If the item is something you really want, then start negotiating. If not, do what Quad does; move on. Sometimes the "test the waters" is code for "don't waste my time with silly offers". Life is too short to let other people's ads get under your skin. For me, I ...
