As these speakers are very, very rare, I will tell you a bit about them. They are arguably the best speaker ever made by Sansui. I have had the XP-11000, and these XL-900C's are in a different class. They were introduced in 1984. They are widely referred to as Yamaha NS-1000M clones. But I refer to them as improved 1000M's. It has been several years, but I remember the Yamaha's as awesome speakers, but lacking bass. The same is not true for these Sansui's. I think of these as NS-1000M's with bass, which in my mind equates to a near perfect speaker. The biggest reason why they have more bass, is because, unlike the Yamaha's, they are a ported design.
They are in extremely nice condition and work perfectly. Very, very high quality drivers, with carbon fibre diaphragms. The clarity is amazing - very fast and precise. The frequency range is amazing 30Hz - 35 KHz. Super high treble that is as smooth as silk and deep tight bass. They are fairly effecient - 93db and sounds fantastic with my tube amp and Sansui AU-7700 amp.
These speakers are mirror imaged, but the pair I have are both "Rights". I do not know how the mix-up occurred, but the original owner told me she bought them that way. I don't think it makes one bit of difference to their sound - after all, how many fine speakers have we listened to that were not mirror-imaged. But, if you think you can perceive a difference, then take out your measuring tape and protractor and move the left one 2" towards the centre lol. If you look on a certain auction site, you will see that there are 2 sets on there right now, at $1640 and $1940. $1000 is a steal for these speakers.
Feel free to ask any questions, but again, the best way I can describe them, is Yamaha NS-1000M's with bass. They are 59 lbs each unpacked, so I would be able to ship them through Canada Post.
