The most successful speaker designs have been two-way bookshelf. The AR-4, KLH 17, Advent and EPI 100 are famous examples. The reason for the success of these two-way systems are not the convenient size and cost but the disproportionately high performance. The use of two high quality drivers (woofer & tweeter) has always produced better sound than three or more ordinary drivers especially in small enclosures.
Attracted by the opportunity to apply new technologies in speaker design, several young experienced speaker professionals (from EPI and Advent) formed Genesis in 1975. The first product Genesis 1, applied the new technology to the proven compact two-way speaker design. The speaker was exceptional value and an immediate sales success. It was reissued again in 1981-85 with secondary improvements after the Genesis Plus 1 (1978-80). Genesis produced speakers until 1987. They are now part of Human Speakers (Genesis / EPI).
Reviews praised its performance and value:
“the integrated frequency response was uniform within +/= 3 dB from 40 Hz to 16 kHz. The Genesis I are an unusually accurate, smooth sounding small speaker system for the home, rivalling the performance of speakers costing several times its modest price” Stereo Review 1976.
“The Genesis model I ...blends the best qualities of the AR, the Advent and the EPI. The speaker is detailed, uncolored, and extended with very little boxiness” Stereo Hifi Equipment Buyers Guide November 1978.
