One model down the extensive history timeline from current Signature 2 which sell for aprox $3000.
Very good sounding speakers, and here in Alberta so local buyers save big on shipping.
A California company and proven success story in audio, Vandersteen has been making the Model 2C for 20 or more years. They keep improving and refining it, rather than making some new sparkly whiz bang model every year like so many companies. Even looks very much like they did 20 years ago. Again, unlike a lot of even decent quality produtcs which today are deep into the swoopy curvey shiny plastic cartoon Cars look.
Check out the online reviews. - good reviews, good speakers. Actually, a lot better than good according to most. Not saying everyone will like them - sound being personal. The forums are as always ripe with diverging views. But are serious contenders in the $3000-4000 new priced speaker market, and most reveiwers consider them a bargain.
I like them....thus I have 2 pair....have owned and heard a lot of speakers.
Sound? Rich and satisfying, like a good coffee - good "tonal balance", bass digs deep and has v nice tone and clairty, good detail and clarity in mids and highs. Image well. Don't seem as fussy about room placement as a lot of larger speakers. Have a lot of presence and really fill a room nicely with good sound. Better dispersion that a lot of speakers, that is you don't have to sit "just here" and hold your head "just so" to find the "sweet spot". Sweet spot is more of a "sweet zone". I say are contenders in the $1500-2000 range of used speakers.
These are the Signature 1 - not the Signature II which is current model. The 2 employs a driver borrowed from the 3 series and also a few more changes so I hear. I'm no expert.
But still a significant improvement over older models - these destroy my older 2C set, especially in mids and highs - much more detail and ..and..just.. more mids and highs.
Tone attenuators for both mid and tweeters, and really are effective - more so than a lot ive played with. The crossovers are considered to be well done with good components. And after 20 years or so, fair to say they've got the design working well.
Richard Vandersteen designer said somewhere, something like "The Signature 2Ce are better than the older model 3, and the newest 3 are better than the newest 2Ce". So the Sig 2 are supposed to be better than these, but these Sig 1 are better than a lot of earlier models including the more expensive older 3 series. Think I have that right.
Not that old...10 years maybe? Good support from a US manufacturer. Rubber surrounds.
These are in very nice shape - I rate them an 8 probably 8.5 for cosmetic condition, as compared to several other unrestored examples. I'm 3rd owner, audiophile history.
Functionally no issues.
Sound Anchor 3 leg stands which are very important for best sound. Spikes ands give a slight tilt. You don't always get these, and are worth about $200-300 if you had to buy a set.
Factory boxes with all packing too. Another bonus.
Audition recommended but no disapointments sight unseen.
Shipping is doeable, with the factory boxes available. They are quite robust - you can tell these guys have been shipping the 2C for a long time.
Too many speakers - need to thin down, so I can buy some Proacs.
In central Alberta.
Can deliver for free to Calgary or Red Deer, on my schedule. Possibly Edmonton too, but could take awhile.
Email or call/text 403-443-3229 not after 8 pm Mountain please
