That classic Pioneer look and sound......
The Pioneer model SX-880 was the last of the 800 series receivers that Pioneer made in 1978-79
Rated at 60 watts per channel into 8 ohms it has plenty of power and it will also handle a 4 ohm load.
The primary distinguishing feature of the "80" models from the "50" models that preceded them was the switch to black meter faces with white characters for better legibility.
When brand new 1978-79 the SX-880 and had a list price of $450.00,
considerably less than the SX-850 it replaced.
It also lost considerable weight.
The SX-880 weighed, according to Pioneer's literature, 27 pounds.
Features, low filter on/off, FM muting, modes stereo and mono, two tape in/outputs, one phono and aux inputs, duplicate switch, loudness on/off. An excellent example of the 1970's Pioneer stereo receivers!

Specifications:
AM/FM Tuning range: FM, MW
Power output: 60 watts per channel RMS into 8Ω (stereo)
Harmonic Distortion: Less than 0.05%
Intermodulation Distortion: Less than 0.05%
FM Sensitivity: 1.8uV
FM Capture Ratio: 1.00
FM Harmonic Distortion Mono: <0.07%lassicaudio.com
FM Harmonic Distortion Stereo: <0.15%
Frequency response: 5Hz to 80kHz
Total harmonic distortion: 0.05%
Damping factor: 30
Input sensitivity: 2.5mV (MM), 150mV (line)
Signal to noise ratio: 76dB (MM), 95dB (line)
Output: 150mV (line)
Speaker load impedance: 4Ω (minimum)
Semiconductors: 5 x FET, 9 x IC, 37 x transistors, 37 x diodes
Dimensions: 480 x 140 x 320mm / 19.00 x 12.75 x 5.5
Weight: 27.00 lbs / 12.2kg.

All function selectors, equipment inputs (phono, tape, aux), and speaker channels have been tested for functionality and sound quality and are in good working order. Vu meters, indicator lights, and dial scale lighting are working. All board components appear to be original and in good condition. Visually, capacitors show no sign of leakage or bulging.
The cabinet shows no typical signs of wear (see photos), overall, looks very pristine!
The face plate, dial scale, knobs, and glass are in very good shape and present well.
Very little cleaning was required on the receiver.
Cleaned and polished the face plate and glass, and cleaned the veneer with a little oil soap
All inputs, speaker / phone outputs, potentiometers, and selector switches have been cleaned and lubricated,
using Caig DeOxit D5, Faderlube, and Gold.
Nothing else was needed.
Overall, this receiver is in great shape and ready to go!
No marks,dents or scratches!
This is almost mint!
All original parts and wood case!
Given it's age condition grading it conservatively as a 9
This receiver has no negative issues and looks and fully functions like new!
Everything works as it should and it sounds great!

The Pioneer SX-450 is a 15 watt FM/MW stereo receiver featuring FM muting, tape monitor switch and provision for 2 pairs of speakers.

The unit employs a direct-coupled OCL circuit in the power amplifier with a first-stage differential amplifier.

High FM sensitivity is ensured by a low noise FET in the front end with a frequency linear 3-gang variable capacitor.

Specifications:
Tuning range: FM, MW
Power output: 15 watts per channel into 8Ω (stereo)
Frequency response: 20Hz to 60kHz
Total harmonic distortion: 0.5%
Damping factor: 25
Input sensitivity: 7.5mV (mic), 2.5mV (MM), 150mV (line)
Signal to noise ratio: 70dB (MM), 90dB (line)
Output: 150mV (line), 30mV (DIN)
Speaker load impedance: 4Ω (minimum)
Semiconductors: 1 x FET, 3 x IC, 28 x transistors, 15 x diodes

Weight: 8.6kg
Accessories: FM T-type antenna
Year: 1976

The smallest receiver in the Pioneer lineup during the mid to late 70's was the Pioneer SX-450. These entry level receivers were only rated at 15 watts per channel but were still built with quality materials and craftsmanship. Sure, there were fewer features then the bigger receivers had and vinyl veneer instead of wood but the SX-450 is still a good receiver for a second system or garage stereo. It will hold its own in a smaller room but tends to lack the power for a larger room.
Made from about 1977 until 1979 the SX-450 retailed for just under $200.00 and, as you can see, it has the usual late 70's look that personified the Pioneer receivers of the time with the silver face, beveled knobs and "wood" case. Inside it has the usual great Pioneer build quality. It is small so it only has 40 capacitors and 8 lamps.
The Pioneer SX-450 also had the following features:

FM muting
Tape monitor switch
2 pairs of speaker outputs
Direct-coupled OCL circuit in the power amplifier
High FM sensitivity
Low noise FET in the front end
Frequency linear 3-gang variable capacitor
Total harmonic distortion: 0.5%
Frequency response: 20Hz to 60kHz
Dimensions: 17.7 x 5.5 x 12 inch
Weight: 19 pounds
Separate bass and treble controls
Tuning Meter
Tape input/output
Loudness switch
Headphone Jack
Phono and Aux inputs

The Pioneer SX-450 isn't something that audio collectors are going to fight over but they still have a market. Anyone interested in vintage audio on a budget would be wise to try one of these receivers before spending a large amount of money on a more expensive unit. They are also great for someone learning to restore older audio components as these are fairly simple and easy to work on. Needless to say these units do sell well.

Right now on Ebay:
Pioneer Vintage Stereo Receiver SX 450 In Working Condition $169.00
PIONEER SX 450 VINTAGE STEREO RECEIVER $149.00

ATTENTION all CAM member tube shoppers...
Finding the right tube for your amp/pre amp,you will find that there will be a lot of different opinions ....
Many times all the answers are right.
The complications can be is some tubes can be very system dependent so it will depend on your system as to which tubes sound the best.
We all desire quiet nice sounding tubes.
Why are some tubes noisier then others,or quieter in certain amps and not in others?
Audio tubes need to settle in and then will get better once burned in.
Definitely buy from a reputable dealers!
If you're going to be into tubes, its always beneficial to develop a relationship with dealers you can trust.
If you want to find the best sounding tube for your system and don't mind spending $$, then buy several brands/types and listen for yourself.
Each brand tends to feature characteristics that may appeal to you and match well with your unit, others not so much so there really isn't one 'best-sounding' tube out there as its very dependent on the application.
Also, while these super rare and uber-expensive tubes do sound great, they're best implementation is in sensitive pre amps and phono stages Remember, a good portion of their cost can be attributed to their scarcity, not just their sonics.
They really don't stand out in the usual amplifier's driver stage and in most other gear, a similar but substantially more common NOS tube of the same manufacturer will provide all but maybe the last 1% of the sonics of the super tubes at a much lower price.
Although improving, still many of the new tubes made today in Europe, China and Russia only reproduce random varied harmonics.
This can be why most of us upgrades to a vintage made tube made decades ago when these rare inner earth metals were available in the inside construction of the vintage tube.
These metals have become too expensive to use and today’s tube makers have found cheaper substitutes which seem to work but do not reproduce all the nuances and textures in music! ...

Also clearing out many assorted brands of vintage 1950 -60's
ECC82 / 12AU7 + ECC83 / 12AX7 ECC81 / 12AT7 tubes
Black + Grey Long/Short Plates are available

Both short or long grey + black plates are available.
Test strong like new with very closely matched sections.
All have had very little use.
Lettering and logo prints are all excellent!
All these vintage tubes still do test very strong, like new /very close!
All tubes have been tested twice on my mutual conductance calibrated B+K tester
They will test at or close to new.
No gas leaks or shorts.
Each shipped tube is bubble wrapped and well boxed!
Price is @ $60.00 per matched pair !
