I’ve received a lot of positive feedback/reviews about ‘The .1’ v1, but also some constructive criticism. The main critique of ‘The .1’ in its original form speaks to the elephant (trunk) in the room – it’s a bit heavy and not the easiest thing in the world to maneuver. That is absolutely a fair assessment, but to be fair – it’s a freakin’ 8 AWG power cable! That said, I listened to the critiques, and put my thinking cap on. I knew that with a well thought out redesign, I could increase flexibility and performance while decreasing bulk and weight - so I went to work. Here's what I did:
- Instead of wrapping the fiberglass sleeve outside the thick rubber jacket, I carefully remove said jacket, leaving the “bundle” of conductors and insulation/dielectric in place.
- While the standard fiberglass sleeve in v1 has been good to me [and more importantly, my clients], I sourced out a new thicker/heavier version of it, and I encase the bundle in that new sleeve.
The new sleeve serves all the insulation duties the thick rubber jacket does in v1, and it provides added shielding to boot. It does all of this while dramatically increasing flexibility, and shedding a whole lot of bulk and weight from v1.
In a nutshell, 'The .1' v2 takes the heart and soul of “The Beast”, and puts it in a lighter, more flexible, and better shielded framework.
The shielding has been effectively doubled, and for an 8 AWG power cable it really has no business being this light and flexible.
And of course, it sounds fantastic too!
Unfortunately, all of my cables include disappointment in your current/soon to be former cables – sorry, not sorry.
Cheeky little bugger, aren’t I?
