Set of NHT VT-3 mains and NHT VT-3 controller. All drivers are both functionally perfect and cosmetically perfect. Missing the grills for the rear firing drivers. All Grills for the front firing drivers and the side firing subwoofers are included. No original boxes and packing materials so I'm listing these as local pickup only. No shipping. If they don't sell with local pickup after a few weeks, maybe I'll look into the cost of having them professionally packed for shipping. However at 130lbs per speaker, I don't imagine it'll be inexpensive. Speakers are located in Norfolk, VA (about 3 hours from Raleigh NC and 3.5 hours from Washington DC). Depending on my schedule, I may be amenable to driving 100-125 miles or so to facilitate the sale.
When introduced, the VT-3 was NHT's flagship reference-grade home theater loudspeaker system. Each massive VT-3 Tower includes a pair of highly damped, side-loaded, long-excursion, 10-inch acoustic-suspension subwoofers housed in separate sealed sub-enclosures. The subs are powered by built-in 500W Sunfire amplifiers designed by Bob Carver. Each tower also features a separate, 4 driver array, upper chamber for low distortion, flat frequency response, tightly controlled bass, and precise imaging in the best tradition of NHT's Music Series loudspeakers. When switched to Video Mode, two rear-firing ambient drivers activate for a more diffuse soundfield, subwoofer output is boosted, and a 35 Hz high-pass filter allows the system to play at higher volume with less distortion. The result is expansive, theater-like sound with visceral bass that contributes to an exciting, involving movie experience.
Active bass equalization gives you the option of dialing in different bass-performance characteristics for music and movies. Bush contends that, for music, one wants a flat, tightly controlled response, while for video, some "slam"-enhancing boost should be built in, and the system should be able to play louder with less distortion.
To that end, and to make adjustments practical, the VT-3 features an outboard, remote-controllable Controller designed to be placed near your other electronics. This slim unit includes Video Bass Contour, Low Bass EQ, Audio/Video mode switching, and Ambient Driver Bypass controls, each of which can be adjusted on the Controller itself or via the remote.
The VT-3 Controller is inserted either between a preamp-processor and power amp or to a receiver equipped with Preamp Out/Amp In jacks. It extracts low-frequency information (via a second-order 100Hz highpass filter) and, after processing it, routes it to the Towers' bass amplifiers. Everything else is looped back to your receiver's amplifier section or your separate amp.
