Reason for selling is I built a new set of speakers that are asking too much from this amp. I need to make room for a larger amp.
I consider this amp a well working diy project. Some experience may be required to maintain as there is no factory service. That said the amp is working perfectly as is and has no known issues. I can offer a 30 day guarantee against mechanical failure. Bias setting is done from the top of the amp with meter points and/or the front analog meter with two way switches for tubes. Instructions will be included. Amp also has switches for triode or pentode operation.
The amp kit was purchased from Bob Latino and built by my a few years ago. It is built in a custom chassis from tiger wood and aluminum.
Add ons to kit include the Russian pio caps and a time delay relay board from Bob Latino.
I made it a solid state supply matching the specs of the weber copper rectifier. Quad cap was changed to mundorf tube caps. Dual choke supply with supplementary capacitor board.
Asking price includes 2 sets of USED (by this amp) matched Tung Sol kt-120 power tubes that still test ok. 1 set of NEW matched quad kt-88's preferred series from The Tube Store. 3 good 12au7 for driver stage. New cost of $1000 cad for tubes.
Shipping would be quite costly but is possible. Please allow extra time if requested.
VTA120 amp !!.
For those that need a little more power is the Dynaco VTA ST-120.
The VTA ST-120 is a 60 WATT PER CHANNEL amplifier .
The VTA ST-120 uses three custom wound USA made transformers and is available as a KIT amp or completely WIRED and tested.
The power transformer instead of 360-0-360 secondaries like the ST-70 has 420-0-420 secondaries and puts about 485 volts on the plates
(pin 3) of the output tubes. The ST-70 puts about 420 volts on the plates. The stack lamination on this transformers is about 2.70 inches tall
- my ST-70's power transformer stack is about 2.05 inches high. This transformer weighs about 4 pounds more than the ST-70 transformer
and is rated at 425 milliamps of current flow.
The output transformers have 4200 ohm primaries, 40% ultralinear screen taps and are 3 7/8" tall, 3 1/4" wide and 3 1/8" deep
(about 1/2" taller, 3/8" wider and 1/4" deeper than a stock A-470 output transformer). Each output transformer weighs about
2 pounds more than a stock A-470 output transformer.
The power storage caps have a higher capacity and voltage rating than the VTA ST-70.
