There are many folks out there who do not have a clue about real meaning of Watts rating.
For control and safety reasons (same as with most other speakers), best sound/best dynamics are obtained with amplifiers rated at 100-300 WPC RMS;
at 10 Watts continuous output it's already disco level loud.
I tested these Tangent at loud levels with JBL Pro MPX1200 (800 Watts/per channel amp),
the sound was simply glorious, music was standing in the air.
So, despite being "chamber" speakers, they can play fairly loud, provided there's no amp clipping.
I was asked this question: "Are these comparable to the Harbeth HL monitors, Spendor and Rogers BBC monitors of the late 70s and early 80s.?"
And my answer is:
Google the model; in many aspects including enjoyment of music, yes. But they are not monitors, they are strictly audiophile speakers.
But then again, I would not call most of Rogers and Harbeth models "monitors", because I know what a REAL monitor is.
Genelec active 1238 or similar is a real monitor.
