For sale is the very famous stax electrostatic solid state amplifier srm717. The amplifier is in excellent condition except for a very small chip in the front panel that is why I advertise it as very good instead. Something you won't notice unless you zoom the camera or look very closely. Something to not worry about and doesn't affect the performance of the amplifier.
This amplifier is believed to be the best solid state amplifier made by stax. If you own the omega or the omega 2 mk1, this is an excellent amp for you. It has more than enough power to make the omega shine. It will drive any other stax lambda with authority.
No hum, No channel imbalance, play very loud.
Compare to the srm t1 family or the srm 006, this is without any doubt a significant step up. It also has more gain than the SRM 007. It’s because it has higher output voltage which is rated 450V RMS compare to SRM 007 ( which is 340V RMS) and the SRM-T1and 006 which are only 300V RMS.
NOTE that the output voltage is different from bias voltage. Bias voltage has nothing to do with the sound as its purpose is only to electrically charge the diaphragm. Pro bias Stax use 580 V (5 pins) while the Stax normal bias 230 V (6 pins)
The best thing about the SRM 717 is that there is a switch inside that allow the amplifier to be used as an integrated amplifier (variable) or as a direct power amplifier (direct).
The integrated amplifier mode allow the knob on the amplifier to control the volume. This will be the default mode when you receive the amplifier .
On the other hand, the power amplifier mode bypass the volume control and bring the audio signal straight to the power amplifier. The power amplifier mode is great if you have a separate pre amplifier. That way the volume is controlled by the preamp. This is great if you have a better preamp. This is what I prefer to use. If you choose this mode, the volume control is deactivated.
If you are new to the electrostatic world, this is an amplifier not an energizer. Which means, you can connect this amp directly to your source or DAC and you are ready to go. No speaker amp required. You only need speaker amp if you use an energizer such as the Stax SRD7. It is because energizers are not amplifier, their purpose is just to charge the diaphragm, that’s why a speaker amplifier is required. With this amplifier, you don’t need an energizer, it is already integrated inside that’s why you can connect it directly to your source or via DAC.
Do not hesitate to contact me if you are interested or need more picture video etc.
