And now for something completly different. This is a pair of Fostex FE 166 ESR full range back loaded horns. Drivers are the limited production Fostex FE 166 ESR full range drivers.
The cabinets were manufactured by the Late Terry Cain of Cain and Cain Fame.
I had the cabinets custom made by Terry Cain using the Fostex recommended speaker enclosure design that shipped with the raw drivers. However, Terry Cain Modified the design and tuned the enclosure to bring the performance into a whole new realm. I sent Terry the divers and the plans for the cabinets along with a check for $6000.00....after a month of tuning the cabinet, he sent them to me...I ran them with 300B amp made by Shindo labs....the music floated in mid air with delicacy when called for and slam and power if the music had it...You like female vocals?...or small jazz ensembles?...then prepare to pick your tongue off the floor....these just play music...they are not hi-fi in anyway. If you cant obtain a 300B or 2A3 amp or even a 45 amp or low powered SET 6BQ5 amp then dont waste your time on these....they are not for everyone.
When a man goes through a divorce after 20 years of marriage there will be possessions he will loose. I have been divorced for 4 years now and this is the one thing I never wanted to part with.
Well life goes on and I suppose eating is more desirable than owning a mind blowing loadspeaker.. How good are these? 2 years ago I attended the rocky mountain audio fest with a buddy who lives in Denver. We wanted to see the best horns systems....Avantguard, Cessaro, and a few obscure offering using Feastrex field coils.....when we heard the music played on these systems...we realized that most so called audiophiles have no idea that recoded music can sound like this....I smiled becuase even though I didnt spend $50,000.00 on these horns they are in the same exact leage.
So heres the long and short of it. If you would like the oportinity of owning the most musical speakers perhaps you ever heard. Then seriously consider these. If you have never heard the best retail horns then find a dealer and take a listen, When you find out they cost $10,000.00 a pair minimum then you will be glad you found these at $3000.00 I dont want to ship these...first they are heavy and they are big....they would cost $300.00 plus to ship. I dont have a way to deliver them but if you want to pick them up in Atlants area they are for sale. If you do have the wild notion of having them shipped keep in mind that it will be expensive and I wont pick up any of the shipping fees....I'm talking custom containers and over the road freight on a pallet.
These are rare....really rare....I mean one of a kind rare....Dont ask me if Ill take $2000.00 and dont ask me if I'll take $3000.00 and pay to have them shipped with custom boxes....If you want them shipped you will pay for the shipping end of story. These are $3000.00 and I wont sell them for less...so dont ask me. Thanks for taking a look.
PS. Once in a while I see a pair of Terry Cains horns for sale and they have doubled and seometimes tripled in price. I paid $6000.00 for these and I feel that I got a very good deal on such a special speaker...so please stop asking me to sell tham for less than $3K I have already priced 50% off what I paid and they are in mint condition ...not a blem or scratch anywhere!!
