EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY AMPLIFIER
WORKS/SOUNDS & LOOKS LIKE NEW
Cleaned in/out, bias adjusted to 12 mV L/R, per service manual, all controls cleaned/deoxidized/lubed, cold solder joints reflowed with fresh solder.
Based on Yamaha M-80 circuitry, AX-700 has a very special performance and outstanding transparency that allows it to be used as a recording studio analytical tool in finding out how exactly a recording really sounds.
Its lower power sibling AX-500 holds 5 out of 5 rating on Audioreview, with multiples reviews.
The speed, the attack, dynamics, control, linearity and transparency are all top notch, at least 9 out of 10, in absolute terms. There are no audible colorations whatsoever.
With minor upgrades, the 700 can be a prime candidate for best integrated mass market amp made in the 80's.
The 8 power transistors used are excellent complementaty pairs of Toshiba 2SA1265+2SC3182, with plenty of driver transistors to support them - That's lots of juice!
The best part of this amp is its beautiful straightforward circuit design with fully balanced topology, obviously the main contributor to its outstanding performance.
The only drawback of this amp is its forward in-your-face sound signature (match carefully, with laid back CD player
and speakers), other than that, it's impeccable.
