The Kenwood Basic T1 is a 4-gang FM tuner and not 3-gang as described on TIC. It happens that I'm also a regular technical TIC contributor and its sister Yahoo group. I've already posted a write up with the corrected information and hopefully the TIC website will get updated soon. Basic T1 write up is now up to date as of 2017-08-05.

This tuner has fresh 105C electrolytic capacitors made by Panasonic and Rubycon in its power supply. Big electrolytic capacitors have been secured with hot melt glue in order to survive shipping.

The audio section was meticulously modified to attain the best possible stereo separation, frequency response and distortion. I have provided before and after measurements of these 3 parameters. The stereo separation and frequency response of this particular Basic T1 exceeds Kenwood's specs (see spec image) and even that of a Joseph Chow modified and aligned Sansui TU-X1 that I measured on the link below for comparison.

This Basic T1 is not a TU-X1 but with this price you can't beat the listening experience of a greater than 50dB stereo separation from 20Hz to 12kHz and an almost flat frequency response will provide.

I mainly listen with my headphones and the sound from a tuner with this much precision can be quite revealing. You hear nuances of the same song that you don't normally discern when listening through your car radio. It's not a fair comparison but my point is that FM listening at home can be enjoyable and non-fatiguing given the right equipment.

Tuner price comes with warranty and shipping within Canada.
