Next from my collection is a set of Realistic Mach One Speakers....Don't let the name Realistic throw you off....These exceptionally well made, overly durable, long lasting speakers are capable of handling 160 watts of pure high power amplification ( Realistic's ad back then states they can easily handle 100 watt musical surges and reproduce them with awesome realism) and deliver the lowest of lows with clean mid & high end sound.... The powerful and heavy-magnet 15 " woofers move such volumes of air you can genuinely feel the bass...The ferrofluid (liquid) cooled mid-range and the extended range tweeter provide a very clean mid and upper end as many reviewers referred to overall as " a beautiful presence exacting live sound ".
These vintage dolls were designed to be pushed by a powerful amp unlike newer speakers that simply do not produce sound below 35-40 HZ, the Mach Ones with their 20-25000 Hz capability can give nearly full spectrum sound with just minor EQ signal modification..... Ideally they should be raised off the floor 10-15 inches with a minimum of 10 feet between them and the listener if possible....There is very good reason for them to be crowned " 130 lbs. of Vintage Thunder " ( that's 65 Ibs. each)....The cabinets are genuine oiled walnut veneer.
As I mentioned above these babies are most definitely designed for a powerful amplifier and will shock and delight you at the same time when put to the test.... I bought these speakers new in and around 1980 and they have always been (when in rotation and not in storage) in a parallel wired group (with an electronically ohm limiting switch box) of a half dozen other speakers at one time....I've rarely had the opportunity to test their amazing volume capacity in my home on their own but when I have I was simply astounded by their high volume ease of tone and clarity.....Some reviewers called them the ultimate party speaker back in the day.....Consumer's Report rated these speakers at #2 in 1981 of all the speakers they had tested worldwide only being beaten by a $1200.00 pair of Cerwin Vega Towers....
As one reviewer wrote " IF YOU WANT OR NEED TO RUMBLE WITH CLEAN SOUND YOUR HOUSE OR NEIGBOURHOOD LIKE IT'S 1979 AGAIN THEN THESE ARE YOUR SPEAKERS ".... That in itself somewhat sums up the clean sounding power of these vintage speakers.... The old adage " they don't make em like they used to " sure holds true here.... Probably the best way I can describe them would be for someone who wants or needs the capability when called upon to also be able to turn up their speakers to exceptionally high volumes with no distortion, still with a clean, clear and robust sound.... I have noticed on line how several individuals have overly raved about the outcome after modding the crossovers of these speakers to produce an even greater quality high volume sound spectrum.....eBay sold pricing for these over the past year has ranged between $350 - $500+ US... before shipping and duty and of course the dreaded dollar exchange to Canada...
Thanks for looking and contact me with any questions you may have....Also check out some of my other pieces of equipment I've decided to sell after all these years....Please only serious buyers.... I look forward to hearing from you.....
