Hand-built Stereo Tube Integrated Amplifier. Built into vintage walnut-veneer chassis, with hand-built and painted metalwork. Uses upgraded version of the circuit from the Pilot AA-902A amplifier. Vintage high-end transformers- output transformers from HH Scott 340B receiver (same type as was used in the famous Berning EA230), power transformer from Fisher 800 receiver. Has large power supply filtering choke (underneath) as well. Tube-regulated screen supply. Separate DC heater supply for preamp tube, for reduced background noise. Over 1000uf of power supply capacitance. Alps Blue Velvet volume pot. Adjustable bias pots and test points on top of amp for easy output tube calibration. Preamp tubes are 6SN7GTA/B (vintage Sylvania), output tubes are 5881/6l6GC (vintage Russian military type), screen regulator tubes are OC3 (vintage Sylvania). Four line inputs, 4, 8 and 16 ohm speaker outputs. 12dB feedback, with great measured stability and bandwidth (flat out to beyond 50KHz without any compensation circuit needed in the feedback loop). Measured to do a minimum of 28w/ch before clipping, both channels simultaneously driven.
Great amp for use with speakers of moderate to high efficiency. Has great clarity and character at low volume, with great bass extension and power, with the power to "blow the doors off" with efficient speakers, at high volume, with no loss of clarity or change in character.
Labor-of-love project- will never be able to recoup the number of hours needed to design, build and tune this amp. Priced at $900.00- the parts alone would exceed that price, at retail.
