Nice pair of Dahlquist DQ20 speakers. Those of you reading this probably don't need an introduction.
-I have owned these for 20 years and they were 9 years old at time of purchase from original owner.
-They have been refoamed (woofers only, midrange and tweeters don't need it) twice, once by Regnar after purchase, and again about 3 years ago by Millersound who does
just as good or better job as Regnar at half the price.
-I had custom oak aprons made by a wood working shop. The original black front aprons are press board and look like crap after 29 years. The new ones are an exact fit and
look very nice. Spikes included.
-They have been upstairs in my listening room since I bought them despite the basement picture. I just brought them there a couple weeks ago. The rails on the back that
support the mid/tweeter assembly are a little rusty on one speaker but that's how I got them 20 years ago.
-The tweeters have been replaced with the same ScanSpeak D2008 from Madisound (I had originally stated D2800, sorry). Regnar sells them at twice the price claiming that they are specially modified for the
DQ20. The ones that are in there sound great.
-There are some chips on the base of the cabinet around the back and one Dahlquist logo is missing.
-I have the wire grills for the back but took them off because they serve no purpose and are easier to move without them.
That about does it for the cosmetics and history. The main thing is they sound great. I was running them for years with a Moscode 600 and Audio Research SP-9 Mkiii and the sound was deep, tight, and open. I have had them all these years because I really couldn't find any better for overall sound quality. I had Eminent Technology LFT8b, Legacy Focus, Magnepan 1.6 and MG III which all did some things better and are all great speakers but I always kept the DQ20 as backups. Time to let them go now though. I have Alon IV which as you may know are also designed by the same Carl Marchisotto that designed the DQ20.
Local pick up only in NY Tri-State area. Will drive a ways to meet.
