The SM8 from Focal Professional is an advanced 2-way digital nearfield monitor speaker that offers terrific audio quality and flexibility in a compact design. The speaker has an 8" passive radiator and an 8" long-throw woofer to provide deep bass frequencies from the compact design. A pure Beryllium tweeter offers crisp, clear treble. Both of the 8" drivers use Focal's "W" composite cone sandwich technology, which fine tunes the mass, rigidity, and damping parameters to optimize the frequency response. The tweeter uses Focal's reversed dome design, which produces a high output without the need for high energy or increasing directivity.
The speaker also offers a patented focus ring magnetic structure, which delivers a strong flux density and exceptional thermal stability. Internal amplification delivers 200W RMS Class-D power to the low frequencies and 100W RMS Class-AB for the tweeter to provide powerful, low-distortion audio and excellent efficiency. The speaker has an analog XLR input, as well as a digital XLR AES input with a 24-bit/96kHz AD/DA converter for terrific flexibility and high-quality delivery of digital audio.
A built-in DSP system allows control over multiple types of EQ , as well as output level, presets, and delays. There are hardware controls for AES left/right channel selection and system control source selection. The speaker has RS-232 and MIDI connectors, as well as a proprietary remote to give you flexible options for wired or wireless control. The speaker has internal bracing for lasting durability and is magnetically shielded for safe use near video monitors and other electronics. A universal power supply makes it easy to use the speaker internationally.
