I have a brand new Clayton S-100 Special Edition with full factory warranty available for sale. The price of $8,600 represents a
significant savings off the list price of $11,500. I obviously opened the shipping box to ensure the unit is in perfect condition so
it has been designated a “ 10 “ according to Canuck’s scale. We are authorized Clayton dealers so you can buy from us in confidence.
After 25 years of trying all kinds of top level tubed and transistor amplifiers, the Clayton S-100 SE is the very best amplifier I have come
across. It is my personal reference ( an identical but different unit ) which I use with Tannoy 15s and you can see it in my reference system
on my website. The sound of the S-100 is magical. Reliability has also been perfect on every unit I have ever brought in.
Prior to the S-100, I had the M-300s. These are identical amplifiers except the S-100 runs in a Single Ended topology whereas the M-300s
are a push / pull differential balanced topology. The circuitry is doubled up so you have the extra chassis and power goes to 300 watts.
While the push-pull M-300s are highly impressive, I personally prefer the sound of the Single Ended S-100 on speakers with reasonable loads.
The S-100 is just like having mono amps as everything is doubled internally. On the special edition version there is an extra heavy duty
power supply — two - 1KVA power transformers, 200,000MFD of supply capacitance and separate amplifiers for right and left channels.
If you’d like to know more about the sonic differences between Clayton’s balanced and single ended amplifiers, call me any time.
Here are a few excerpts from some reviewers and an end user. You can find many more such as these on the various audio sites.
" The Clayton is objectively the most nearly perfect solid state power amp. we've ever heard. Period. The Clayton sounds at least
twice as good as the Levinson and Krell amps in virtually every important sonic aspect."
- Peter Moncrieff - International Audio Review
" Going from one recording to another, my honest impressions were that I never heard a finer power amplifier - not at any time, not at
any price. And you may recall I had the DartZeel amp. in the Big Rig before Stereophile did. And while the DartZeel sounded very
good, and I liked it, it didn't do to me the things the S-100 did. The S-100 has a transparency it alone possesses.”
- Martin DeWulf — Bound for Sound
“ The character of the S-100 is unlike anything I have ever heard in this price range, it emulates the smooth organic sound of tubes
while maintaining the firm grip on bass and seemingly infinite power reserves of the best quality solid-state amps. It is an über amp,
but with soul… “ - Rick LaFaver, Enjoy the Music
" Of all the amplifiers I have reviewed, If I had to pick one to live with today, the Claytons would be it, hands down".
- John Brazier — Positive Feedback
" I did audition the Soulutions and find them quite musical. However, to my ears, in my system, I found even more musicality and a slightly
more natural sound with a pair of Clayton M-300 class A monoblocks and a VAC Signature lla preamp ".
