NEW! Two pairs available. I have my own pair (older, rougher shape) and a newer pair. I will be keeping whichever pair doesn't sell!
Pictures are of a sold pair - the new pair is very nice condition. Drivers have just had the foam surrounds professionally replaced.
My research on these speakers indicates original price per system pair was $12 to 15K CAD.
I have more than one pair available. Condition varies.Speakers are located in Mississauga, Ontario.
Seeing the huge old blue JBL Studio Monitors and Rodgers/Spendor monitors (of BBC fame) get such high praise from the audiophile community makes me wonder why the Canadian brand SOTA (State Of The Art Electronik) have never attained the same level of prestige. They are a beautifully made speaker system, and are still in use by studios in Canada and around the world.
If you've never seen them, they are large jet black beasts; each monitor having a middle D'Appolito MTM line array (two 4” mids drivers, one each sitting above and below a centrally mounted 1” silk dome tweeter). This array is flanked on either side by two 12” woofers that are raked away from the central array by what might be 33 degrees or so.
When properly amplified (bi-amp is the only way, using the custom phase-aligning crossover, the SOTA AAX2, included), the sound is accurate and incredible.
Originally soffit-mounted, CF750's come equipped with threaded inserts to accomodate suspending from the ceiling should that be of interest. I can even throw in some hardware to facilitate this method of installation.
Keep in mind, these were working monitors and as such, they have a few cosmetic blemishes, although most have been easily hidden with black paint (the enclosures are flat black MDF). Mechanically, they are excellent, and have just come back from having all the drivers professionally re-foamed.
An awesome set of speakers.
