Hegel Music Systems of Oslo, Norway has been around since 1988, but they have been making in-roads to the North American market for a couple of years now. That includes a Canadian distributor and several dealers across Canada.
Hegel produces high end, high quality, modern designs at very reasonable prices, and are developing a reputation for making Giant Killer products.
The Hegel H300 is a 250 watt integrated amplifier that includes a very handy, high quality built-in D/A converter. There is a USB input (16 bit / 48 kHz, Plug & Play. No drivers needed) two SPdif and two Toslink inputs (SPDIF resolution: 24 bit / 192 kHz). Hegel says that this is their best-sounding DAC, better than their stand-alone DACs. You can read about this amp on the product page at their website: http://www.hegel.com/products/integrated/h300
TED magazine (Quebec Audio?) gave the H300 an excellent review last month, and the H300 was a recipient of the 2012 SoundStage! Network Product of the Year Awards:
"Exceptional Value: Integrated Amplifiers
Hegel Music Systems H300 integrated amplifier-DAC: Hegel of Norway has been around for more than 20 years, but these days they’re making a huge splash in North America with austere but elegant-looking, affordable components that often outperform models costing much more. Case in point: the H300 integrated amplifier-DAC ($5500), which Hans Wetzel reviewed for GoodSound! in December. It’s the component you must look at if you want an exceptional-sounding, single-box electronics solution that can challenge the best separates while driving almost any speaker out there -- its amplifier section is said to deliver 250Wpc into 8 ohms or 430Wpc into 4 ohms, and to be stable down to 2 ohms. Buy an H300, couple it to the very best speakers you can afford (perhaps the KEF R500s?), and I suspect you’ll have a system you’ll be satisfied with for a very long time."
This Hegel H300 has only been used lightly for enough hours to break it in, and it's in beautiful condition.
Retail in Canada is $5700.00, but you can have this one for only $3200.00 obro
