I've been collecting vintage stereos for a long time, and now a part of my collection is coming up for sale, to finance the upcoming purchase of Sansui BA/CA series separates. All of the equipment I own was expertly serviced by me and therefore works flawlessly. All original condition, low mileage, no repairs.
Regarding the sound: I've heard many a Sansui in my life. Sansui G series are some of the best receivers ever made, with few notable remarks: G-x000 series tend to have the best sound and build quality, but also tend to sound "relaxed", really nice for classical and other ambient music, not so great for rock, as it becomes annoying with time. Last of G series, Sansui G-x700 have all suffered major cost-cutting, such as unshielded power transformers (why Sansui would do that? - electromagnetic fields kill fragile music), digital circuits and cheaper parts, and they all sound thin, harsh and grainy (G-6700, G-7700, etc); that is something my ears cannot stand.
G-x500 are in between, still feature nice build quality (look at the picture), yet do not have the relaxed sonics drawback of previous G-x000 series. They are punchy, very detailed and exceptionally musical, with life-like 3D imaging. That is exactly the reason why top models: G-5500 and G-7500, are so hard to find in nice shape.
Serious buyer please.
