This deck works perfectly and sounds very, very nice. It is in superb cosmetic condition – nice and clean too. It has been fully tested and works great. And yes, it makes wonderful recordings.
I will include the metal 7” Realistic reel (in original box) and a sealed Realistic 1800’ tape.
Teac made this deck for Radio Shack (motors and parts are labelled “Teac”). It was very similar to the Teac X3, but apparently with some sonic improvements over the X3. Also, the TR-3000 has larger and nicer control buttons than the X3. The TR-3000 sold so well that Teac introduced a new model (X-300) which was based on the TR-3000.
It features 3 heads and 3 motors. The fast forward and reverse motors are direct drive. The capstan (play) motor is belt driven. I was really impressed with the speed of the FF & REW.
It has logic controls (no need to Stop before switching between Play, FF or REW)
Auto tape shut off
3 ¾ and 7 ½” speeds
accepts up to 7” reels
I have only had this deck for a month, as I bought it as part of a complete system. I already have 2 other decks, so I don’t really need this one.
The original owner had not used it in several years, so it did not get much use. This was evident by how clean the heads were. But I cleaned them anyway, along with the capstan and all rollers and tape guides. I sprayed the output and recording level controls and they work without static.
I installed a new belt. Also, the play button would sometimes stick during the first 2 days of use. But for the past month it has worked great, without issue. I have used / tested it for several hours.
The meters both work fine and are lit. Counter works. Pinch roller is in great condition (nice and pliable). Spindle tables run true.
It is a nice compact deck that can be used vertically or horizontally. Measures 13” high and 16” wide, weighing 28 lbs.
If I have forgotten anything or if you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I have shipped large decks before (Akai GX-747, Teac X2000R, etc) so I know how to pack them safely.
